Director/Senior Director of Accounting
We are looking for a Director/Senior Director of Accounting, who is pro-active, self-directed, and who possesses a high quality bar for themselves and their work product. This individual will report to the VP Corporate Controller and have exposure to the CFO and other levels of management. Strong verbal and written communication skills are a must.
This position will have responsibility for supporting all parts of our accounting and reporting process. In addition, this position will be expected to understand technical accounting to properly record complex transactions and prepare financials and related notes to the financials. Critical outcomes include closing the books on a regular schedule, preparing financial statements for both actuals and budgets, working with the executive team to prepare variance analyses, supporting the executive team with key financial information and operational analytics and driving a culture of accountability in the business. Demonstrated experience in leading teams to manage and accomplish unusually complex challenges will be expected as this is an ongoing requirement for this position.
Key Responsibilities:
- Responsible for preparing all financial statements (balance sheet, income statement, statement of cash flows, statement of equity, notes to the financial statements) as well as oversee consolidations, stock-based compensation, equity, capitalized software, accounts payable, expenses and cash management.
- Directs and controls the general accounting activities, including recording company transactions, classifications, and reconciliation of account balances in accordance with GAAP and company policy.
- Prepares internal management reports for monthly financial results to senior management.
- Partner with the Finance team to analyze variances between actual financial results and forecasts and assist in the budgeting process as needed.
- Ensures compliance with GAAP and adherence with company policy; assess, analyze and implement new policies and changes of current and proposed GAAP accounting principles.
- Works with the external public accountants in planning and completing the annual financial audit.
- Supports the development and implementation of accounting systems and controls; directs the documentation of accounting procedures; ensures implementation of requisite system changes to support the business.
- Leads staff as necessary for department operations. Builds employee engagement, morale and motivation. Teaches and trains staff in all accounting matters to help raise accounting acumen within the department.
Required Qualifications:
- Degree in Accounting or related field from a major university
- At least 7 to 10+ years of relevant work experience with Big-4 background
- CPA/MBA preferred
- Knowledge of financial statements, financial planning process and technical GAAP accounting principles.
- A demonstrated history of solving multiple and complex operational and accounting challenges
- Strong organizational skills, detail-oriented mindset and a high sense of urgency
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal), ability to partner and build collaborative working relationships with employees at all levels of the organization
