The Director of Finance position is responsible for various aspects of Financial Planning for the North American Recorded Music Division at our company headquarters in Santa Monica. This position will act as the liaison between Universal Music labels and UMG Corporate Finance to support the monthly consolidation processes, analyze results and provide variance explanations to the Global Finance team. The position will manage monthly financial forecasts, review annual operating plan submissions of our North American labels and perform ad hoc analyses as required by the SVP and CFO of North America.

Job Functions:

  • Review Monthly Results verses Plan, Forecast and Prior Year and communicate variances to Global Finance
  • Analyze and report key performance indicators and highlight trends in margin, artist investment and cash flow
  • Manage annual Plan and Forecasts including:
    • Consolidation of North American Region
    • Sales reporting by release
    • Deck preparation for review by Senior Management
    • Analysis of year-over-year trends and financial targets
  • Prepare executive presentations in support of Actuals, Forecast and Plan
  • Provide ad hoc analysis as required
  • Manage team of three finance professionals
  • Identify and implement process efficiencies and enhancements to improve productivity and quality of forecasts

Skills/Abilities:

  • Superior analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Prior management experience is a must
  • Ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple assignments
  • Must think independently and creatively and possess excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Skilled and experienced in asking right questions to turn around analyses quickly
  • Candidate must possess strong Excel, Word and PowerPoint skills and experience with Hyperion Financial Management/Smartview Reporting, SAP and BPC Planning
  • Extensive experience conducting quantitative and qualitative financial analysis
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and financial statement preparation

Experience:

  • Minimum 10 years of financial planning & analysis, strategic planning, accounting and/or audit experience is required
  • Experience in the entertainment industry, with understanding of recorded music business preferred

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or other related areas
  • CPA or MBA is a plus
