Title: Director, Credit Underwriting and Collections

Job summary: The Director of Credit Underwriting and Collections will lead strategy and execution to ensure accurate, timely and compliant decisioning of loan applications and collections across multiple product lines. Equally important, this person must be a natural coach and strategic planner for members of both the Credit Underwriting and the Collections teams. The role reports to ForwardLine’s Chief Risk and analytics Officer.

Abilities:  The Director of Credit Underwriting and Collections will set the overall strategy for the day-to-day operations of our underwriting and collections teams. This includes, but is not limited to, staffing, seasonality, efficiency, accuracy, credit risk, fraud, and compliance. This individual must also be able to advise the team on policy questions and individual applications when needed. Being able to shift gears at a moment's notice and enjoy the challenges of scaling up operations in a fast-paced environment is a must.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Develop strategies that align with business goals in the areas of staffing, optimization, accuracy, credit policy, collections and compliance.
• Track and drive forward key performance metrics around verification of application information, underwriting standards, and consistency with credit policy, as well as collections activities and effectiveness.
• Manage, coach, and train both individual contributors and people managers across Credit Underwriting and Collections teams.

• Manage underwriting operations procedures/ processes and develop efficient and effective deployment of various credit policies. Exhibit a sense of urgency towards meeting applicant requests while also meeting acceptable risk parameters.
• Partner cross-functionally to continually enhance the accuracy and efficiency of the underwriting process, while appropriately managing expenses.

• Manage collection efforts, policies and procedures. Ensure effective restructuring, recovery or charge-off of default loans. Work with borrowers to secure collateral, equity or other assets. Engage in other activities designed to preserve the loan principal.
• Ensure the teams are up to date on new features, releases, tools and lending laws.

Ideal background:

• 8+ years of underwriting experience within a small business or consumer lending organization - online, credit card and/or installment loans preferred.  Collections experience a plus.
• 3+ years of team management experience.
• Strong understanding of online lending, credit risk, credit policy, and portfolio management.
• Ability to work in a fast-pace, high-growth environment, comfortable with ambiguity as relates to identifying and solving business challenges.
• Excellent communication skills, externally and internally.
• Strong track record of identifying tooling needs and successfully implementing long-term software solutions.
• Defining, measuring, and executing against key performance indicators.
• Ability to challenge team members and be challenged to achieve team goals.
• Bachelor's degree, MBA preferred.
