Cost Accountant

As a founding member of Anduril’s Finance and Accounting team you will be responsible for the cost accounting function. You will conduct studies which provide detailed cost information for production lines, monitor actual performance against standard, report operational variances for decision-making purposes, establish in the development of controls, procedures and systems related to Cost Accounting and Inventory Management.
Responsibilities
- Create cost accounting policies and procedures to arrive at accurate standards for inventory
- Learn and understand bills of material, assign labor, and other overhead cost to accurately determine gross profit and margin
- Analyze trends in cost variances, production volumes, and material usage and implement timely adjustments
- Coordinate inventory cycle counting program, investigate variances, and ensure compliance with policies
- Continually improve all facets of cost accounting, inventory control, variance analysis, gross margin analysis, forecasting & system improvement
- Assist in the accounting month-end process and booking the cost accounting month-end close entries and preparing reconciliations
- Collaborate with other department managers in reporting and reviewing various trends and key performance indicators
- Generate and distribute weekly/monthly/quarterly spend, inventory, and production reports as needed
- Participate in annual operating plan preparation and strategic plan preparation as required, primarily in the development of manufacturing costs and the calculation of standard margin and gross profit
- Responsible for implementing the cost functions with new ERP system
Requirements
- 8+ years professional experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- In depth knowledge of cost accounting theory and methodology and the ability to apply it in a practical way to the business environment
- Certified Management Accountant (CMA), preferred
- Proficient with automated accounting systems and spreadsheet applications
- Ability to prepare detailed reports, graphs and presentations
- Ability to effectively communicate and present information to team members, team leaders, and top management
- Experience working in a manufacturing environment within the aerospace and defense industry, preferred
- Experience in ERP system implementation, preferred
