We are hiring a Senior Accounting Manager to help us realize our mission to better the lives of animals by building a place that’s better for all of us who love them. This role will be responsible for building out the foundations of our Accounting function. Key responsibilities will include establishing financial operations excellence and the implementation and improvement of financial processes and systems to propel Modern Animal’s growth.


We are looking for a highly motivated self-starter with a deep expertise in technical accounting willing to roll up their sleeves to build our accounting operations and to drive continuous improvements in a high-growth environment. The right candidate will have excellent project management and communication skills with the ability to juggle multiple priorities and to thrive in a cross-functional environment.


In this role, we are looking for a leader who is passionate about pets and the people who love them, and is excited to set the foundation to bring our mission to life as we grow.

What the job entails:

  • Execution of the month end close process and related account reconciliations to ensure compliance with US GAAP
  • Prepare and review journals, accounts reconciliations, and fluxes
  • Subject matter expert for the evaluation and documentation of complex technical accounting and financial reporting matters, including ASC 842 and ASC 718
  • Assist with the implementation of various financial systems, including ERP, planning and inventory management
  • Work cross functionally to build scalable financial processes to support rapid growth
  • Ownership of the financial reporting function, including the creation and distribution of management and investor reporting
  • Serve as main point of contact for external auditors, including our first ever financial statement audit
  • Work closely with Controller to design and build out the finance function -- including, team, processes and systems
  • Manage compliance for income, sales, property and other taxes
  • Communicate regularly with clinical and office staff. Be a point of contact for questions, training, and support to ensure employees have the information they need.

Why you’d be a great fit:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting with CPA preferred
  • 6+ years of accounting experience with a minimum of 4+ years in public accounting
  • Financial analysis experience; including fluctuation analyses, annual budgeting, and/or long-term forecasting
  • Demonstrated strength leveraging data and qualitative insights to drive decision making
  • Strong analytical skills and impeccable attention to detail
  • Collaborative go-getter, willing to roll-up sleeves and to be hands-on
  • Enthusiasm for thinking outside the box to tackle complex problems
  • Exceptional organization skills & ability to manage multiple project simultaneously
  • Operate with high emotional intelligence and exceptional communication skills
  • Experience with financial systems (e.g., NetSuite) and implementations preferred
  • Experience in technology, facilities, and/or services industries preferred
