Finance Operations Manager
Rain is the fastest-growing earned wage access (EWA) fintech in the U.S., serving 3.5 million employees and backed by top investors like QED and Prosus. We’ve raised nearly $400M in funding—including the largest Series A in fintech history—and just closed our Series B to fuel our next stage of hypergrowth.

The Finance Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing the entire repayments flow of Rain’s primary EWA product. It is a unique role that encompasses managing key operational steps in the customer workflow, including delivery of deduction files and receipt of payroll data, as well as the invoicing process, including payments reconciliation and ensuring timely payment of accounts receivables. The Finance Operations Manager will lead a team of analysts, fostering a collaborative environment that prioritizes strong customer relationships and effective communication. This position plays a critical part in maintaining the financial health of the organization and supporting overall business objectives.

What you’ll do

  • Payments Reconciliation: Match payments in our bank account with outstanding invoices.
  • Collections Strategy: Summarize new and ongoing repayments issues for the Finance Operations team and partner teams; design and execute effective strategies to ensure timely invoicing and payment, and reduce days outstanding for accounts receivables.
  • Invoice Reconciliation and Customer Balance Review: Address and resolve customer inquiries related to invoice amounts in a timely and professional manner; provide prompt resolution of credits, and review and write off uncollectible balances when needed.
  • Customer Relationship Management: Build and maintain positive relationships with customers to facilitate communication regarding outstanding debts.
  • Reporting and Analysis: Prepare regular reports on accounts receivable aging and collection efforts for senior management.
  • Credit Assessment: Evaluate credit risk of new and existing employers; set credit limits or restrict customers as needed.
  • Team Leadership: Manage and mentor the finance operations team, providing guidance, training, and performance evaluations to ensure optimal team performance.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with finance, customer success, implementations, and other departments to align repayment efforts with business objectives.

Who you are

  • 7+ years of experience in an analytical or operational role (i.e., operational process leadership or consulting, business intelligence, systems engineering, payments management, data management), with a history of improving customer performance through product expertise and the ability to identify and troubleshoot operational or financial anomalies.
  • 2+ years managing people.
  • Strong organizational skills, including the ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively under pressure; comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to clearly explain problems to both customers and coworkers.
  • 99th percentile for attention to detail, including minimization of errors across large data sets and capture of all operational alerts.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills to resolve reconciliation issues.
  • Ability to hold a high bar for the team and drive accountability with analysts.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite and G-Suite, particularly Excel and Google Sheets; bonus points for experience with Hubspot.
  • Ability to be flexible and adjust to changing priorities or projects as the company scales.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
