Who are we searching for?
We're looking for a Finance Engineer — someone who turns manual finance and accounting processes into scalable, automated, AI-supported workflows. This role sits at the intersection of Finance, Accounting, Systems, Automation, and AI.
You'll design and build customized finance systems for multiple startup and scale-up clients — leading each implementation from discovery through go-live, then supporting it long-term. You'll typically run 2–3 implementation projects at once while supporting 7–10 active customers, so comfort juggling parallel work without dropping quality is essential.
Whether you're a finance professional who learned to build with AI, or an engineer who developed deep finance knowledge — if you're driven to eliminate repetitive manual work at scale, we want you on our team.
What are your responsibilities?
- Lead client implementations end-to-end: run discovery sessions, gather requirements, present solutions, take systems to go-live, and support customers afterward
- Design and build finance systems following Fuel standards — reusable and maintainable, not one-off fixes
- Build and improve workflows for reporting, forecasting, month-end review, reconciliations, and financial controls
- Automate repetitive finance work using AI tools, low-code platforms (Make, n8n, Zapier, Workato), integrations, and internal workflows
- Connect and structure data from accounting systems, CRMs, payment tools, spreadsheets, BI tools, and data warehouses
- Build checks, controls, and validation logic to improve accuracy and reduce manual errors
- Balance multiple active implementations and ongoing support simultaneously while meeting deadlines and maintaining quality
- Partner with Engineering on APIs, integrations, data pipelines, and workflow orchestration
What are the preferred requirements for the role?
- 5+ years implementing finance systems, automations, or finance process improvements — with clear ownership of what you built and its business impact
- Hands-on experience building production-ready AI workflows, agents, prompts, or automations that solved real business problems (Claude / Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, custom LLM builds, or similar)
- Confident with automation platforms: Make, n8n, Zapier, Workato, or similar
- Practical experience with APIs and integrations — you can explain authentication, webhooks, API limitations, and integration architecture, and have built or configured integrations yourself
- Strong understanding of finance and accounting: month-end close, reconciliations, AP/AR, procure-to-pay, revenue, budgeting, reporting, and financial controls
- Understands how financial data moves between operational systems
- Familiar with enterprise systems as an integrated set: ERPs, CRMs, BI platforms, payment systems, and data warehouses
- Solid AI/LLM fundamentals: prompt engineering, context management, memory, and agent orchestration
- Experience working directly with customers — running discovery, presenting solutions, supporting after go-live
- Track record managing multiple projects at once without losing visibility or missing deadlines
- Fluent English (C1+) and excellent client-facing communication — you'll work directly with founders and finance teams
- Systems thinking, ownership, learning agility, and comfort solving ambiguous problems without complete specs
Will be a plus:
- Knowledge of Python, SQL
- Data warehouses: BigQuery, Snowflake, PostgreSQL, etc.
- Enterprise architecture awareness: security, scalability, governance, integration patterns
- Experience administering financial, accounting, billing, or ERP systems
- Experience with tools like NetSuite, QuickBooks, Xero, Stripe, Salesforce, HubSpot, Zuora, Looker, Power BI, Tableau
- Experience with US-based clients or startups
Reporting Structure: Reporting to the FP&A Team Lead.
Recruitment Process:
- Soft skills interview with the recruiter
- Test task
- Hard skills interview with the Head of FP&A
- Culture fit interview with the Head of FP&A/VP of Operations
Why work with us?
- Help scale Fuel's platform across dozens of growing companies — making enterprise-grade finance accessible to startups
- Rapid skills growth: gain exposure to many business models and industries while progressing toward Senior or Enterprise Finance Engineer
- Growth opportunities according to our seniority grading (comes with a compensation increase)
- Flexible schedule and time-off policy
- 18 days of paid vacation per year, paid sick leaves
