Job Overview
We’re designing the future of immersive social experiences: events, groups, hangouts, and moments of social connection that only VRChat can make possible.
We’re looking for a product designer to join our Experience team, where you'll craft core user experiences across VRChat. This role will also be the steward of our design system across client, web and mobile, building the foundations that enable coherent design patterns across everything we ship.
You’ll work closely with our Experience Design Lead to shape how people gather, socialize, and participate in shared moments across platforms. You'll also take full ownership of our existing design system, guiding its evolution to support product consistency, accessibility, and cross-platform scalability.
This role is perfect for someone who thrives on systems thinking, cares deeply about expressive interaction design, and loves designing for presence, emotion, and connection.
What You’ll Do
- Partner with your design lead, PMs, and engineers to design core features that support events, groups, and social interaction in VRChat.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure features feel intuitive and delightful across platforms: desktop, mobile, and VR devices.
- Design flows, interactions, and UI that help users easily discover, join, and participate in social experiences, whether spontaneous or scheduled.
- Translate abstract ideas into tangible UX via wireframes, prototypes, and polished visuals in Figma.
- Reuse existing design system patterns, follow naming conventions, and communicate rationale with the team if new patterns are invented so that you distribute design knowledge and reduce unnecessary re-work.
- Work closely with engineers to implement accessible, performant, and beautiful UI that aligns with our shared design language.
- Stay connected to community behaviors and platform use to inform patterns that support real-world usage and emergent social interactions.
Bonus Points
- Understanding of trust, safety, or moderation systems that support healthy online interactions.
- Familiarity with VRChat, social VR norms, presence-based UX, or designing for avatar-based expression.
- Experience working on cross-platform design (desktop, mobile, VR headsets).
- Passion for online communities, emergent social behavior, or the sociology of digital spaces.
Not sure if you meet every single requirement?
- We’d still love to hear from you! We know great designers come from all kinds of backgrounds, and we’re ultimately looking for a proactive do-er, a human-centered systems thinker, and genuinely great to work with. If you’re excited to help shape the future of social VR and build design foundations that scale, we encourage you to apply!
Where You’ll Be
- This is a remote-first role. Work from wherever you do your best thinking. We’re a fully distributed company with team members across the globe. While we work asynchronously, overlap with U.S. time zones is needed for team collaboration.
Benefits
- 100% Remote – work from anywhere in the world
- Health benefits for U.S. and Canadian employees
- 401K (U.S.) and RRSP (Canada) retirement plans
- Stock options
- Unlimited/flexible vacation policy
- Paid parental leave
- Generous holiday schedule
VRChat is an equal-opportunity employer, and we welcome applicants from all backgrounds. VRChat fosters a diverse, creative, and collaborative environment where anyone can contribute to any of the ongoing projects or direction of the roadmap at any time. If you’re a passionate team player who wants to have an impact on a dynamic team, we’d love to hear from you!
