JOB DESCRIPTION

Fox Entertainment is seeking an Executive Director, Business & Legal Affairs to lead and support a broad range of strategic dealmaking and legal matters across creator partnerships, production, and emerging technology initiatives. This role will serve as a senior legal and business advisor, partnering closely with business and legal affairs leadership and key stakeholders to structure, negotiate, and execute complex agreements in a rapidly evolving media landscape.

The department sits at the intersection of traditional entertainment, the creator economy, and technology-driven production. The ideal candidate is a highly versatile, business-minded executive who thrives in an entrepreneurial environment within a large media company. This individual combines strong strategic judgment with the ability to independently manage a high volume of complex, day-to-day matters; build trusted relationships with internal and external stakeholders; and develop practical solutions that advance business objectives while appropriately managing risk.

Regular, on-site attendance at the workplace for a minimum of four (4) days per week is an essential function of the position. The selected candidate must be able to reliably meet this requirement.

A SNAPSHOT OF YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the negotiation, drafting, and execution of a broad range of complex agreements, including creator, production, talent, licensing, content, and technology-related deals

  • Serve as a legal and business advisor to internal stakeholders, providing practical counsel on deal structure, business strategy, contractual terms, and legal and commercial risk

  • Partner cross-functionally with production, ad sales, technology, finance, business development, and other teams to structure and execute partnerships and strategic initiatives

  • Advise on legal, business, and policy considerations arising from emerging technologies, including AI-related initiatives, content creation tools, workflow solutions, and evolving rights issues

  • Help shape and implement scalable legal processes, contract templates, playbooks, and best practices that support the department’s evolving business needs

  • Contribute to the development of technology-related policy, guidelines, and governance frameworks as the business models in this space take shape

  • Navigate a high degree of ambiguity, applying sound judgment to novel legal and business questions where clear precedent doesn't yet exist

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with creators, producers, agents, attorneys, technology partners, and other external stakeholders

  • Manage multiple high-priority projects simultaneously while exercising sound judgment in a fast-paced and evolving environment

WHAT YOU WILL NEED

  • JD degree and active membership in the California Bar; candidates eligible for Registered In-House Counsel status under Rule 9.46 will also be considered.

  • 10+ years of progressively responsible legal experience, including substantial in-house entertainment, media, technology, or related transactional experience; top-tier law firm experience

  • Significant experience independently negotiating and drafting complex production, talent, creator, licensing, content, and/or technology agreements

  • Demonstrated ability to advise senior business leaders and influence strategic decisions through practical, commercially minded legal counsel

  • Strong understanding of entertainment rights, production, talent, and evolving digital media business models

  • Excellent legal judgment, negotiation, drafting, communication, and interpersonal skills

  • Proven ability to build credibility and work effectively with senior executives, creative teams, business partners, and external representatives

  • Ability to lead complex matters from strategy through execution, manage competing priorities, and remain composed under pressure

NICE TO HAVE BUT NOT A DEALBREAKER

  • Experience advising on AI-related legal, business, rights, and policy issues in media, content, or technology

  • Experience supporting creator economy, digital media, platform, or technology-enabled production initiatives

  • Prior experience mentoring or managing attorneys, paralegals, or other legal professionals

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
