Over the decades we have helped to address some of the nation’s most challenging environmental restoration and compliance issues. Our work spans the US and its territories, from large complex radiological studies to preliminary assessments at remote islands OCONUS. We began investigating PFAS in 2013 and have completed or are completing PFAS projects in almost every state and territory, at over 130 sites, and with tasks ranging from preliminary assessments to remedial actions. We serve numerous federal and commercial clients, though our primary clients are U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Air Force, Army and Air National Guard, NASA, U.S. Coast Guard, and the Department of Energy.

The Environmental Scientist will work under the supervision of Senior Staff providing office support for environmental assessment, investigation, remediation, and monitoring at sites impacted by petroleum, chlorinated solvents, explosives, and PFAS or other contaminants. Projects include CERCLA and RCRA investigation and restoration including but not limited to soil and groundwater.

Environmental Scientist RESPONSIBILITIES:
•    Work on and lead a variety of interesting, small to large site investigations and remediation and other projects under various US state and Federal regulatory programs including CERCLA and RCRA.
•    Support task order execution as a deputy project manager taking on responsibilities of scope, schedule, and cost and participating in client and regulatory stakeholder engagement, with the goal of becoming a project manager.
•    Lead preparation of project documents such as work plans, technical memorandums, reports, tables, and figures with a multi-disciplinary team of engineers, geologists, hydrogeologists, scientists, chemists, risk assessors, modelers, environmental data managers, etc.
•    Focus on team project delivery, working with a project team, taking direction primarily from Project Managers and providing oversight and guidance to lower-level technical staff.
•    Work within quality/budget/schedule expectations and scope-specific assignments.
•    Communicate with subcontractors, site/facility personnel, client contacts, and regulators during field activities.

WHAT SETS YOU APART:
•    Bachelor’s degree in environmental sciences, chemistry, or a related field and 4+ years of relevant professional experience or Masters with 2+ years of prior relevant experience.
•    Effective verbal and written communication. Ability to work independently with little supervision. Ability to work collaboratively with multiple staff across diverse range of disciplines.
•    Experience handling multiple project assignments, and maintaining flexibility, while meeting strict deadlines.
•    Project management skills, including achieving scope objectives, meeting schedules, and managing budgets. 
•    Ability to manage technical staff. 
•    Good organization skills with the desire to lead process improvement efforts.
•    Proficiency in technical report writing, and analysis skills (e.g., sampling and analysis work plans, UFP-QAPP, quarterly sampling reports).
•    Experience with inorganic and organic laboratory methods including PFAS, QA/QC elements, and record keeping.
•    Experience with environmental data validation practices/policies/procedures especially the Department of Defense Quality Systems Manual and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency National Functional Guidelines for Data Review.
•    Experience with environmental databases such as ERPIMS, EQuIS, ADR.net or FUDSChem, or data management software such as MS Access and SQL.
•    Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.

YOU MIGHT ALSO HAVE:
•    Master’s degree in relevant discipline.
•    Additional training and certifications related to the environmental field are desired and should be noted (e.g., 40-hour HAZWOPER).
•    Prior experience managing and/or providing oversight for fieldwork (e.g., low-flow groundwater sampling, drilling operations) a plus.

Pay Range:Pay Range $72,150.00 - $130,425.00

The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
