CONTRACT ROLE

Insomniac is looking for an Environment Artist. In this role, the Environment Artist will be responsible for creating game worlds by modeling/sculpting assets from high res to in game, authoring textures and materials, and taking in-editor design roughs to a photorealistic level of completion while still respecting composition and layout.


Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Creates organic and hard-surface assets from a style guide, with or without concept art.
  • Takes assets through the full modeling/texturing production pipeline.
  • Sculpts, high poly, low poly, High poly to low poly bakes
  • Optimizes textures and geometry; creates LODs
  • Creates modular kits
  • PBR Material assignment and texture creation
  • Completely builds out and set dresses spaces with modular assets in-editor within scope of the project’s metrics.
  • Uses a combination of assets using 1:1 bakes and trim/tileable workflows as needed
  • Works independently and actively communicates with other production teams as needed (Design, VFX, Audio etc.)
  • Maintains performance requirements for levels (memory, framerate, draw calls, instances).
  • Scopes levels for on-time milestone delivery.
  • Maintains consistent style under the direction of the Art Director and Lead Environment Artist.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Computer Skills

  • Knowledge of Maya and with baking of high-poly models to low-poly models workflow.
  • Proficient in texture creation with Photoshop, Substance Designer/Painter, or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of sculpting with ZBrush.
  • Experience using at least one industry-leading level editor and source control with Perforce or the equivalent.
  • Houdini knowledge is a plus.

Other Skills

  • Proficient foundations skills, including composition, design, and color theory.
  • Strong traditional painting skills, ability to create models and shaders for a range of art directions, from photorealistic to stylized.
  • Ability to meet deadlines under tight schedules.
  • Willingness to receive direction and work closely with a team.
  • Understanding of basic game design and passionate about gaming a plus.
