A little about us

incident.io is the AI software reliability platform trusted by engineering teams at Netflix, Etsy, and 2,000+ companies who can't afford downtime.

The stakes are real, the talent is insane, and somehow it's a genuinely lovely place to work. We all pull our weight, go the extra mile, and put in the bit of magic most companies don't have time for, all while having fun and never taking ourselves too seriously.

We've raised $96 million from Index Ventures, Insight Partners, and Point Nine, and we're growing fast. There's never been a better time to join.

Your way into tech sales

If you've been looking for an opportunity to break in, this is it.

We're looking for purposeful, high-potential people who take coaching well, brush off rejection, and are always finding ways to level up. You don't need sales experience. As long as you have the raw ingredients, we can teach the rest.

Sales Academy is a 3-month program where you'll learn from proven sales leaders and all-star sellers, and you'll be selling a product customers love. The world's best engineering teams rely on incident.io when things go wrong, so you'll start your career with something worth talking about.

What that looks like day to day

You'll start in January 2027 alongside a cohort of people who, like you, have never done this job before. You get to be bad at it in front of people who are also bad at it, and get good fast.

Part one: training. You'll get intensive training and support from our sales leaders and tenured sellers. It covers researching prospects, cold calling, writing outreach people want to answer, and handling objections. You'll also learn how incident.io works, who we sell to, and why they buy. There's daily practice, homework, and plenty of coaching from people who want to see you succeed.

Part two: doing the job. For the rest of the academy, you'll work as a Business Development Rep (BDR) on live accounts. You'll make calls and send outreach, and the meetings you book will feed our pipeline. By the end, you'll be able to hold your own on a cold call with a CTO.

What you get out of it

It all starts here. BDRs are the bench for the rest of our go-to-market team. People in this seat go on to become Account Executives, Account Managers, and Customer Success Managers. The goal is for everyone who finishes the academy to convert to a permanent BDR, launching a long, high-trajectory career here at incident.io.

Alongside sales training, you'll get professional development and networking opportunities across the wider business. We want you to feel like part of our culture from day one, not someone passing through.

If you don't convert, you'll still have had three months of paid, on-the-job training. You'll leave with tested, marketable hard skills and a clearer sense of your strengths and where you'd do your best work. We'll do our best to help you with your next move.

Who you are
  • You've never been a BDR before. You might be a new grad, someone switching careers (teaching, the military, sport, performing), or someone from traditional sales like retail, door-to-door, events, or fundraising. We care about what you're capable of, not what's on your resume.

  • You really want this. You're not drifting into tech sales. You've decided, and you can tell us why.

  • You're seriously curious. About people, about what's keeping a VP of Engineering up at night, and about why one call landed when another didn't.

  • You've had to be resilient already. You've held a room, or heard "no" over and over without taking it personally.

  • You like being coached. Someone has told you the honest version of how you're doing, and you got better for it.

  • The phone doesn't scare you. You may never have made a cold call, but talking to strangers all day sounds fun rather than horrifying.

  • You want the cohort. Learning alongside other people, being measured against them, and wanting them to do well too sounds good to you, not stressful.

Interview process at a glance
  • Stage 1: Application & aptitude assessment. Send us your LinkedIn profile and your contact details. From there, we'll email a link to complete a 25-minute aptitude assessment.

  • Stage 2: On-site interview. A half day in our San Francisco office with the sales team.

  • Stage 3: Offer.

Good to know
  • This role is based in our San Francisco office. You're welcome to apply from outside the Bay Area, but you'll need to be in the office from day one, working five days per week in office.

  • We don't provide relocation assistance for this role.

  • This is a 3-month temporary role, and the goal is to convert you to a permanent employee when the academy ends.

  • Benefits start when you convert to a permanent role. You won't be eligible for our employee benefit plans during the 3-month academy.

  • Our first cohort starts in January 2027. Applications for this cohort close on December 1st. We'll begin hiring for our April 2027 cohort January 4th.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
