About the role

We’re looking for an Engineering Manager who provides both leadership and technical guidance for one or more software engineering teams. You’ll balance execution with people development — ensuring teams deliver reliable, scalable software while fostering a healthy, inclusive, and high-performing culture.

You’ll collaborate closely with product and design peers to align on priorities and execution plans, communicate progress and risks clearly, and contribute to the company’s technical and organizational growth.

What You'll Do:

As an Engineering Manager, you'll play a key role in leading our teams and delivering high-impact software:

  • Collaborate closely with Product Management and Design to define requirements, scope, and delivery timelines for SaaS features and platform improvements.
  • Manage day-to-day operations of one or more software engineering teams, ensuring timely, high-quality delivery.
  • Drive agile processes—including retrospectives and sprint planning—to maintain team velocity and focus.
  • Establish clear goals, KPIs, and development metrics to measure progress and team impact.
  • Partner with Customer Success and Support to triage and prioritize production issues and client feedback.
  • Promote cross-functional communication and ensure engineering alignment with company priorities.
  • Mentor, coach, and develop engineers at varying levels of experience to foster growth and autonomy.
  • Collaborate with senior engineering leadership on architectural decisions and long-term technical strategy.
  • Contribute to hiring efforts and help onboard new team members effectively.
  • Maintain high standards of code quality, scalability, and performance, and participate in technical reviews where appropriate.
  • Encourage a culture of ownership, experimentation, and accountability across the team.

What You Bring:
  • 5+ years of experience actively managing software engineering teams.
  • Led multiple engineering teams with proven success in delivery and execution.
  • Proven track record of leading teams in SaaS startup environments, from early-stage growth through scaling.
  • Strong understanding of cloud-native architectures, CI/CD pipelines, and modern web service design.
  • Experience driving cross-functional collaboration between Product, Design, QA, and DevOps.
  • History of delivering features that drive measurable business outcomes (e.g., user retention, performance improvements, reliability).

Bonus Points:
  • Experience working in VC-funded or growth-stage startups.
  • Background in enterprise SaaS or B2B platforms.
  • Experience building and mentoring remote or hybrid teams.
  • Familiarity with data-driven decision-making, analytics tooling, or AI/ML-enabled SaaS products.
  • Hands-on technical background in one or more of: Python, Node.js, TypeScript, or similar.

Compensation Range

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
