At Workiva we’re hiring an Engineering Manager to lead a high-impact team within our Governance, Risk, & Compliance (GRC) area. This is a key leadership role where you’ll guide a skilled full-stack team building critical product features using technologies like TypeScript/React, GraphQL, and Kotlin. Your future team is an agile product development team focused on collaboration, growth, and continuous improvement. In addition to delivering product features, the team also plays a key role in tackling platform integrations and technical unblocking to support broader engineering velocity. In this role, you’ll provide technical leadership, nurture a diverse team, and strategically guide efforts to ensure successful product development. You’ll play a crucial role in fostering a supportive, inclusive environment where team members feel empowered to learn, experiment, and contribute innovative solutions.
What You'll Do
Leadership & Coaching: Guide, support, and empower engineers through regular coaching, feedback, and career development. Foster a healthy, collaborative culture while managing engagement and conflict resolution.
Talent & Planning: Represent team needs, prioritize work based on roadmap and capacity, and collaborate with leaders to define objectives aligned with company goals. Participate in recruiting and onboarding.
Technical Leadership: Bring strong technical depth to guide architectural decisions, evaluate trade-offs, and ensure sustainable development practices that balance support, scalability, and technical debt.
Quality & Risk Management: Partner with leaders and ICs to define quality strategies, ensure adherence to standards and best practices, and identify and communicate technical risks.
Delivery & Representation: Ensure accountability for delivery schedules, represent Workiva Engineering at internal/external events, and actively support recruiting efforts.
What You'll Need
Required Qualifications
Undergraduate degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in a related field
4+ years of experience in a related engineering role
2+ years of experience in a people management role
Preferred Qualifications
Due to the scope and complexity of the team, we’d prefer:
6+ years of experience in a related engineering role
3+ years of experience in a people management role
Progressive experience in software engineering, with a strong understanding of the software development life cycle (SDLC) and its importance to product success
Practical experience with our core technology stack: TypeScript, Java, Kubernetes, Node.js, React, and GraphQL
Experience with programming, including a solid foundation in computer science, data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented design
Familiarity with Agile development methodologies
Experience in accounting or financial reporting
Strong communication skills, including verbal, listening, and written communication
High attention to detail
Proficiency in facilitation and conflict resolution
Travel Requirements & Working Conditions
This role typically requires no more than 10% travel, supporting a healthy work-life balance

How You’ll Be Rewarded
✅ Salary range in the US: $111,000.00 - $178,000.00✅ A discretionary bonus typically paid annually
✅ Restricted Stock Units granted at time of hire
