About the company
Our client is a fast-growing software company.
The role
Raydar is recruiting for this role on behalf of our client. Lead a small engineering team, taking responsibility for people management, delivery rhythm and team growth while staying hands-on with code. Work closely with product and technical leadership to prioritize and deliver meaningful projects.
What you'll do
- Manage a team of roughly six to eight engineers, including regular one-on-ones, ongoing feedback, hiring, performance management and career development.
- Own the team's planning, retrospectives and delivery health, and raise risks early.
- Stay close to the work by writing code for a modest share of your time and contributing regular pull requests.
- Partner with product managers and technical leads on priorities, architecture decisions and cross-functional alignment.
- Onboard new engineers smoothly and keep documentation and ownership boundaries clear.
Requirements
What we're looking for
- 8+ years of engineering experience, including direct people management of 5 or more engineers as a people manager rather than a tech lead.
- Hands-on experience hiring, handling performance issues and running performance reviews.
- Strong hands-on TypeScript skills, with willingness to complete a live coding interview in that language.
- Recent technical contribution to live products while holding a management position.
- A progressive career path from software engineer through senior and staff levels into management.
- Significant backend engineering experience.
- Comfort using AI tools in engineering workflows, plus familiarity with modern AI product development practices such as evaluation, experiment design and dataset curation.
