About Kintsugi
Kintsugi is revolutionizing sales tax automation with our AI-powered platform designed specifically for e-commerce and SaaS businesses. Our solution reduces tax preparation time by 75 percent and cuts compliance costs by 50 percent, allowing finance teams to focus on strategic initiatives rather than routine calculations. As we continue to grow and disrupt the tax automation space, we're building a world-class team to help us scale with purpose.

The Role
We’re looking for an experienced Engineering Manager to lead our Product Engineering team, the group responsible for delivering the frontlines of the Kintsugi experience. From intuitive web dashboards to user-facing APIs, seamless integrations, and AI-powered workflows, this team brings our product to life for customers.

In this role, you'll be instrumental in scaling our product engineering function as we grow. You’ll lead a high-performing team, partner closely with Product and Design, and ensure our roadmap translates into a thoughtful, high-impact user experience. This is a hybrid role that combines people leadership, technical mentorship, and hands-on execution.

What You’ll Do
  • Lead and mentor a team of talented engineers through coaching, feedback, and career development support

  • Own execution of our product roadmap, ensuring timely, high-quality feature delivery that exceeds user expectations

  • Collaborate cross functionally with Product, Design, and other engineering teams to define architecture and shape the user experience

  • Champion engineering excellence by evolving best practices around testing, code quality, deployment, observability, and performance

  • Stay hands on, contributing to architecture decisions, reviewing code, and solving complex technical problems where needed

What We’re Looking For
  • Proven engineering leadership experience in fast paced, product led environments (startup or scale up preferred)

  • Strong technical foundation in modern web development (for example, React, TypeScript, Python, FastAPI, Postgres)

  • Experience designing and scaling SaaS products, especially in B2B or fintech contexts

  • A collaborative, empathetic communicator who thrives in dynamic environments

  • Passion for creating tools that simplify high stakes workflows and make customers' lives easier

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
