The Messaging Engineering team at Netflix is responsible for creating and delivering multi-channel messaging experiences, including Email, Push Notifications, SMS, WhatsApp, and In-App messages. These efforts aim to drive engagement, retention, acquisition, and revenue growth across the customer lifecycle. The Messaging Engineering org is organized into Messaging Experiences and Messaging Foundations, which focus on both the user experience and the foundational aspects of messaging platforms. 
 

This role sits within the Messaging Foundations group and will be responsible for our messaging platform. The Messaging Platform team is responsible for innovation and production of the platform required to support messaging at Netflix. The team builds and scales micro services to support the diverse messaging needs for innovation on the product which keeps the team nimble, data driven, scaleable, and stable. This team is constantly exploring additional communication channels. 
As the Engineering Manager of the Messaging Platform team you will partner closely with various functions towards delivering all outbound messages (email, push, in-app, SMS) for the Netflix consumer product (games, live, streaming).  You will anticipate needs, foster nimbleness, and build a world-class team.

  • You are comfortable explaining the complex remit of your team from the interns to the C-suite.

Must-Haves:

  • Technical Depth and Vision - Demonstrated success in building/leading complex architectures and distributed systems. 
  • Engineering mindset - technically curious and stays engaged in technical execution  and encourages learning in the team.
  • Strategic Vision - always looking 6-12 months ahead of the team to be able to support the product.
  • Experienced Leadership - thoughtful, candid and strong interpersonal skills. Can lead and mentor all levels of engineers. Inclusive. Leads with Context and not control. 
  • Internal partnership - a strong partner for product and engineering leaders. Equally passionate about working with engineering and non-engineering stakeholders.
  • Technical Execution - leading large cross-functional teams on complex projects and architectural shifts. 
  • Selflessness - you do the right thing for Netflix.

These considerations can cause your compensation to vary and will also be dependent on your location. 

The overall market range for roles in this area of Netflix is typically $190,000 - $920,000.
