We are experienced. We have been fortunate to have learned from mentors and peers at institutions such as Google, LinkedIn, JUMP Trading, Citadel, PEAK6 Investments, Goldman Sachs, Harvard Business School, Carnegie Mellon, IIT + more.

Impact

At FalconX, you’ll help create a more open financial system. In building trading, credit and custody infrastructure, we are enabling thousands more institutions to enter the market and support a more open and accessible financial system. The world’s largest financial institutions from Wall Street to Silicon Valley will turn to you for products that provide unparalleled seamless, efficient and secure access to the cryptocurrency sector.

FalconX is hiring a hands-on Engineering Manager to lead our Custody and Staking engineering team, a core part of our Prime Brokerage platform. In this role, you will be deeply involved in the design and implementation of secure, scalable, and reliable blockchain infrastructure supporting multiple chains and protocols. You will work side-by-side with engineers, providing technical guidance, coaching, and mentorship, while helping the team deliver high-quality systems that directly impact the business. This is a technical-first role where your contributions—both as a builder and as a leader—will be critical to the success of our custody products and the broader vision of an open financial system.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor a small, high-caliber engineering team, setting and maintaining very high engineering standards and accountability.
  • Actively contribute to the design and implementation of secure, scalable, and reliable custody and staking infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with Product and Engineering leadership to prioritize initiatives, treating customer pain points and urgent issues as top priority.
  • Drive architectural decisions, promote best practices, and ensure systems meet high standards for reliability, security, and performance.
  • Personally tackle complex, high-impact technical projects that require deep problem-solving and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Work closely with team members on coding, code reviews, and problem-solving to ensure fast, thoughtful, and high-quality delivery.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, urgency, and operational excellence across the team.
  • Rapidly iterate to support new blockchain features and protocols while maintaining stability and scalability.
  • Troubleshoot critical technical issues and lead decision-making that directly impacts business outcomes and customer experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience in software engineering, with at least 3 years in a technical leadership or management role.
  • Strong technical background with hands-on experience building scalable, secure backend systems.
  • Proven ability to drive engineering excellence and accountability within a team.
  • Experience leading small, high-performing engineering teams in a fast-paced, high-urgency environment.
  • Proficiency in one or more programming languages such as Java, Python, TypeScript, or Go
  • Experience designing and operating distributed systems, microservices, or high-availability infrastructure.
  • Familiarity with digital asset custody, wallets, or blockchain infrastructure is a plus, but not required.
  • Ability to prioritize customer-facing issues, treat critical problems as P0, and deliver reliable solutions quickly.
  • Track record of tackling complex technical challenges with ownership and excellence.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, balancing hands-on coding with leadership and strategic decision-making.

The base pay for this role is expected to be between $213,000 and $288,000 in the New York City and San Francisco Bay Area. This expected base pay range is based on information at the time this post was generated. This role will also be eligible for other forms of compensation such as a performance linked bonus, equity, and a competitive benefits package. Actual compensation for a successful candidate will be determined based on a number of factors such as location, skillset, experience, qualifications and the level at which the candidate is hired.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
