About Scope3

Scope3 is the industry’s leading collaborative sustainability platform. By modeling the complex digital advertising supply chain, we help brands measure and dramatically reduce digital waste to reduce carbon emissions from advertising and increase the efficacy of advertising investment. This is an exceptional opportunity to build a company alongside great people and make a difference in one of the most important issues facing the planet: the climate crisis.

We’re a venture backed company of 100+ folks distributed across the globe. We are fortunate to be led by an experienced leadership team, many of whom designed and engineered the digital advertising landscape as we know it today. The company secured $20M in Series B funding led by GV in Oct 2023 (additional investors include Venrock, Rucker Park, Room40 Ventures, and Craft Ventures), and we are thrilled to be the recipient of an additional round of $25M in Oct 2024. Scope3 has significant market traction with more than 150+ customers and is experiencing accelerated growth.

Scope3 is a fully remote company and largely asynchronous to provide flexible working hours and to operate globally, with concentrations in New York and Europe. At this time, we are hiring in Canada, Australia, UK, France, Germany, and the United States.

Role Overview

We are excited for you to consider joining Scope3 as an engineering manager! This Engineering Manager will be responsible for overseeing one of our core product engineering functions, with two pods of approximately 8 engineers. This role requires an experienced leader who is comfortable growing and managing more than one team/pod. You will use their technical, project and people management skills to lead the team to consistently deliver quality solutions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure delivery of high quality products across our Signals and Classification products.
  • Lead and mentor two teams of engineers, fostering their growth and effectiveness while upholding an inclusive culture of collaboration and kindness
  • Define and track key engineering metrics and KPIs to measure team performance and product quality
  • Collaborate closely with the product stakeholders to ensure solutions are technically feasible and can be delivered in suitable timeframes
  • Partner with senior engineers to guide the architecture and design of our technical systems, ensuring scalability, reliability, and security
  • Manage resource allocation, budgeting, and capacity planning within your team
  • Foster a startup culture of experimentation, continuous improvement, and technical excellence, driving innovation and adaptability
  • Execute on hiring and onboarding, while retaining top engineering talent
Qualifications
  • 7+ years of engineering experience, with at least 2 years in management roles supervising multiple independent teams
  • Has personally architected, built and operated systems that have operated at scale, and thus able to lead by example in architectural decisions and technical implementation
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Experience developing SaaS products with product-led growth mindset
  • Proven track record of managing, mentoring and promoting engineers
  • Deep understanding of software development methodologies and best practices
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Bonus

Preference will be given to candidates who bring some of the following; none of these are required:

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
