StubHub is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead a high-impact organization responsible for building the platform, data systems, and services that power the live event experience for millions of users. In this role, you will be accountable for delivering strategic business and customer outcomes through rigorous execution, organizational clarity, and exceptional team leadership. Your mandate is to raise the bar, ensuring technical excellence, growing a top 10% talent bench, and maximizing impact at scale.

This team sits at the core of StubHub’s technical foundation, responsible for the data infrastructure, real-time systems, and backend services that enable every live event experience across our platform. From ticket discovery to event personalization to marketplace analytics, this org powers mission-critical capabilities that touch millions of fans, partners, and sellers. We operate at scale, move with urgency, and hold a high bar for technical quality and team health. We’re looking for a leader who can elevate both, driving clarity across complex systems, developing top-tier engineering talent, and delivering meaningful impact through data-rich, resilient platforms.
Location: Hybrid (3 days in office/2 days remote) – New York, NY or Santa Monica, CA
What You’ll Do:
- Maximize strategic impact: Align teams to high-return opportunities and set clear priorities that produce measurable business and customer value. Drive clarity across complex problem spaces and ensure that execution ladders up to company goals.
- Drive execution at scale: Own delivery across multiple teams or domains. Ensure high-quality, predictable execution through strong technical and operational oversight, proactive problem-solving, and clear accountability mechanisms.
- Elevate organizational talent: Hire and grow exceptional engineering leaders. Build a succession pipeline, hold a high talent bar, and take principled action to maintain a top-performing, high-integrity team.
- Champion operational excellence: Drive efficient execution, system reliability, and continuous improvement across your organization. Establish durable processes and standards that scale with growth.
- Model constructive candor: Set the tone for direct, transparent communication. Raise tradeoffs early, invite dissent, and ensure critical decisions are grounded in data and aligned with strategic goals.
- Foster team health at every level: Create psychologically safe, inclusive environments that encourage feedback, growth, and ownership. Leave teams stronger and more empowered than you found them.
- Steward technical quality: Oversee architectural and technical direction across teams. Ensure systems are robust, maintainable, and aligned with long-term business needs.
- Partner across the company: Collaborate with Product, Design, and Data to influence roadmaps, resolve cross-functional blockers, and drive end-to-end delivery of business-critical initiatives.

What You’ve Done
- 10+ years of engineering experience, including senior leadership of production systems and critical software.
- 4+ years of experience managing managers or leading large engineering teams.
- Strong technical depth in backend, infrastructure, data systems, or APIs (e.g., Java, Python, C++).
- Proven success in driving execution, solving complex problems with data, and managing organizational complexity.
- Skilled in navigating ambiguity, setting strategy, and operating with urgency and precision.
- Experienced in building inclusive cultures rooted in trust, autonomy, and accountability.

The anticipated gross base pay range is below for this role. Actual compensation will vary depending on factors such as a candidate’s qualifications, skills, experience, and competencies. Base annual salary is one component of StubHub’s total compensation and competitive benefits package, which includes equity, 401(k), paid time off, paid parental leave, and comprehensive health benefits.
