Our mission is to help organizations trust the software they build and use by bringing integrity, transparency, and control to every step of the development process. As an Engineering Manager, you’ll lead a talented team shaping how software is built and secured at scale.

About Manifest

Manifest is securing the software supply chain. We help organizations understand, trust, and protect the software they build and depend on. Our platform delivers visibility, integrity, and control across modern development pipelines.

We’re a Series A startup backed by leading cybersecurity and enterprise software investors. Our team combines deep security expertise with modern software engineering practices, and we’re looking for an Engineering Manager to help us scale our products and our team.

The Role

As an Engineering Manager, you’ll lead a team of full stack engineers building Manifest’s core platform. You’ll guide the team’s technical direction, manage execution, and foster a collaborative, high-performance culture.

You’ll also stay hands-on—participating in design discussions, reviewing code, and contributing to prototypes and experiments that advance our product and technical vision.

What You’ll Do
  • Lead, mentor, and grow a team of full stack engineers.
  • Partner with product and security teams to define roadmap and deliver high-impact features.
  • Contribute to system design, architecture reviews, and technical decision-making.
  • Foster an engineering culture focused on quality, ownership, and continuous learning.
  • Support full stack development across backend services, APIs, and web applications.
  • Contribute to prototyping, experimentation, and early-stage development efforts.
  • Help recruit, onboard, and develop new engineers as the company grows.

The impact you will have:

  • Leading your team in designing and building robust, scalable backend systems that serve as the foundation for intelligent software workflows
  • Drive system architecture and backend design decisions in support of high-volume, low-latency applications
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to evolve our platform capabilities in ways that are maintainable, performant, and extensible
  • Improve system efficiency, reliability, and scalability as we grow
  • Help define and uphold engineering best practices across the organization
What We’re Looking For
  • 8+ years of professional software development experience.
  • 3+ years of engineering leadership experience, including people management.
  • Strong background in full stack or backend development.
  • Experience with modern technologies such as Go, Python, or Node.js on the backend and React/TypeScript on the frontend.
  • Familiarity with cloud environments (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
  • Ability to thrive in a fully remote, fast-paced startup environment.
Bonus Points
  • Experience in cybersecurity, particularly software supply chain security.
  • Familiarity with supply chain security concepts like SBOMs, Vulnerabilities, License management, dependency tracking, etc.
  • Contributions to open source or developer security tooling.
  • Experience scaling engineering teams and processes in an early-stage startup.
  • Familiarity with ETL workflows or stream processing architectures.
  • Exposure to modern backend ecosystems and frameworks including API design, microservices, and data infrastructure.
  • Exposure to AI/ML features or intelligent automation from a product integration standpoint.
Why Join Us
  • Mission-driven company securing the foundations of modern software.
  • Remote-first culture with flexible work and strong async collaboration.
  • Opportunity to shape the direction of our product, technology, and team.
  • Competitive compensation, meaningful equity, and comprehensive benefits.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
