We're thrilled to be building a new AI org at 1Password, and we're looking for an Engineering Manager to lead one of the teams. This is a unique opportunity to grow a team, define a roadmap, and guide the execution of greenfield projects in the rapidly evolving field of AI.

Our team's ambitious goal is to become a leading voice in the AI conversation, by setting a standard for the security of AI and Agentic workflows, and exploring impactful ways to integrate AI within our product.

As an Engineering Manager supporting this team, you bring significant industry experience leading teams that are building and shipping products leveraging modern AI tooling and LLMs. You have a solid understanding of the landscape, and a clear vision for where AI is headed in the near future. You’ll define processes that enable the team to operate efficiently and iterate quickly towards its goals - this team will be operating like a startup within the larger company, moving fast and breaking things. You'll work in close partnership with our product, marketing, and partnerships teams to define our roadmap, amplify our message within the industry, and collaborate with key players to expand our reach and achieve our objectives.

This is a remote opportunity within Canada and the US.

What we're looking for:

• At least 3 years experience directly managing a team of engineers shipping products leveraging AI.

• You have significant hands-on development experience (preferably in the AI space) and have engineered your way out of many complex, unscoped problems.

• Having lived the life of a senior developer before, you leverage your own experience to coach and train up the developers on your team.

• You have successfully coordinated and delivered large scale greenfield projects before that touched multiple areas of the business, product, or underlying architecture.

• You are able to create and maintain a positive, healthy team environment in which everyone is supported, encouraged, and meaningfully challenged to do great work.

• You motivate and inspire others. After meeting with you, people get back to their job with more energy. You are a force of positivity and lift people up when they need it.

• You enjoy having the freedom and responsibility to make final decisions on most everything for your team. Handling tough problems gives you energy and you can make the hard decisions even when there isn’t much information to go on.

• You are capable of driving the efficient delivery of projects, and creating roadmaps for future work.

• Hire and retain strong engineers, building a solid team that works well together, achieves ambitious goals, and creates positive impact.

• Define a mission, technical strategy, and 12 month roadmap that supports our overarching objectives, and navigate changes as they arise.

• Scope key deliverables for projects and initiatives with the team and drive execution with an emphasis on delivering and iterating, balancing quality and velocity.

• Align and collaborate with cross functional partners and other engineering managers to understand each other’s priorities and move forward in the same direction.

• Facilitate effective communication, whether it's upward through your management chain, downward to your team, or sideways to your peers.

USA-based roles only: The annual base salary for this role is between $190,000 USD and $258,000 USD, plus immediate participation in 1Password's benefits program (health, dental, 401k and many others), utilization of our generous paid time off, an equity grant and, where applicable, participation in our incentive programs.
Canada-based roles only: The annual base salary for this role is between $172,000 CAD and $232,000 CAD, plus immediate participation in 1Password’s generous benefits program (health, dental, RRSP and many others), utilization of our generous paid time off, an equity grant and, where applicable, participation in our incentive programs.

Our approach to remote work

While we are a remote-first company, travel for in-person engagement is a part of almost all roles, and we require our employees to be ready and willing to take part.
