THE PURPOSE:

As the Vice President of Safety, Certification & Quality Assurance at Virgin Hyperloop One, you’ll be our internal safety authority, holding VHO to the highest safety and quality standards as we transition from R&D to building and maintaining the world’s first hyperloop networks. You’ll lead the team that ensures our products are fit for purpose, sustainable in operation, and safe to use, operate, and maintain. As our internal auditor, you’ll assess our engineering quality, control, and compliance to secure certification, accreditation, and regulatory compliance.   

 

THE ROLE:

 People Management: 
  • Recruit, mentor, coach, and motivate your team 
  • Manage people, priorities, schedules, budgets, and quality 
 Technical Safety Authority: 
  • Establish overall safety strategy and foster a safety culture at VHO 
  • Set certification strategy aligned with existing and proposed standards 
  • Evaluate, develop, and implement policies, standards, and practices to support safety, quality, and reliability throughout the engineering and product lifecycle 
  • Accountable for oversight of our engineering process, ensuring all engineering projects, initiatives, and processes adhere to our established safety policies and objectives 
  • Responsible for independently verifying and validating the safety requirements of the supplied system and the integrity of the technical solution  
  • Develop, maintain, and enforce our system safety management plan 
  • Develop generic product, generic application, and specific application safety cases  
  • Support operators in implementing safety management systems to our standards 
  • Accountable for interface with regulators, certifiers, transportation authorities, national safety agencies, independent safety assessors, and regional development partners 
  • Monitor international, federal, state, and local regulations and laws, making recommendations for necessary changes to achieve compliance 
  • Develop any functional bodies necessary to promote and advance hyperloop acceptance 
  • Flexibility to travel 25or more Other projects as assigned 

THE CANDIDATE:

  • You’re an enthusiastic leader with strong interpersonal skills  
  • You’re an excellent communicator (both spoken and written), comfortable presenting in front of groups 
  • You think deeply, critically, and creatively about challenges, comprehensively analyze and solve ambiguous problems, and convey your points persuasively 
  • You’re highly self-motivated and eager to take on new challenges  
  • You manage conflict effectively, dialoguing, negotiating, influencing, and working with others collaboratively and constructively 

 MINIMUM REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Applied Science, or other relevant field or equivalent work experience 
  • Proven track record of developing and implementing safety programs and plans 
  • Experience leading and developing senior-level cross-functional teams  
  • Familiarity with safety standards, such as CENELEC 5012x, IEC 61508, or ISO 26262  
  • Familiarity with quality management systems, such as ISO 9001 or AS 9100

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Master’s degree in Engineering, Applied Science, or other relevant field or equivalent work experience 
  • Leading senior-level safety teams through definition, implementation, construction, and commissioning  
  • Operation and maintenance planning and development for mass transportation projects  
  • Driving organizational change, managing stakeholders, and delivering high-level safety training 
  • Experience with requirements management tools, especially DOORS
