THE PURPOSE:

The Test Fixture Design Engineer is responsible for the development of testing systems, equipment and fixture tooling where needed. This individual is responsible for working closely with Test and Development engineers as well as other department engineering personnel to provide the best design or solution technically possible.

This role is critical in designing Test fixtures and tooling that will provide Virgin Hyperloop One with data which could be used to further our R&D efforts and build a commercial scale system.

THE ROLE:
On a day to day, you can expect to be working on our CAD software (NX), as well as gathering design requirements from our engineering teams. You will transform those design requirements into possible designs and work with our build teams to implement. There is a lot of autonomy in this role--meaning that you will be directly working with engineers, vendors, and technicians to make sure your project is being completed accurately and on time.

THE CANDIDATE:

The ideal candidate for this role has experience taking multiple projects through the design life cycle--from conceptualization and design. This person will be interfacing closely with all hardware teams to assist with testing needs, as well as Test Engineers to coordinate instrumentation and test layout, technicians to execute build, and manufacturing for fabrication.

They should be able to develop simple design solutions to complex problems with background in creating mechanical test stands with proper automated systems and instrumentation. Most of what we design are one of a kind, meaning that this candidate should understand and interpret a variety of abstract and concrete variables to provide the best possible solution.

Virgin Hyperloop One is also a very collaborative R&D environment--the candidate should be a team player and possess great communication skills.

MINIMUM REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Track record of completing multiple machine design projects from conception to implementation
  • Knowledge of manufacturing techniques and methodologies
  • Proficient in CAD software package(s) such as NX (preferred), CATIA, Solidworks, etc.
  • Solid understanding of GD&T
  • Knowledge of fundamental engineering analysis tools such as hand calculations or simulations

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • B.S. in Engineering or Engineering related field
  • Designing mechanical test equipment (instrumentation, automation)
  • Experience using Siemens Unigraphics NX 8 or higher, and a PLM/PDM software such as Teamcenter
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Project
