THE PURPOSE:
- At VHO, we are designing and building a cutting-edge transportation system that is not only high performance and cost-effective but is also reliable, safe, and durable for decades. Therefore, it is imperative to design and test structures to maintain mechanical integrity during their service design-life.
- The structural integrity engineer will help develop the company wide methods for structural integrity (e.g. fatigue, durability and damage tolerance) as part of the systems engineering team.
- The structural integrity engineer will also be responsible both for conducting structural integrity analysis, and instructing the larger engineering body in how to do so.
THE ROLE:
- Perform fatigue and crack growth analyses using commercial software tools
- Perform finite element analyses (FEA)
- Work with design engineers on material selection and property development
- Develop in-house analysis tools using Python, MATLAB, and Excel
- Work with test teams, external labs, and materials group to develop fatigue properties
- Work with design teams and test teams to perform component level fatigue testing
- Help develop structural integrity methodologies for structural certification, e.g. fatigue, durability and damage tolerance, inspection intervals etc.
CANDIDATE PROFILE:
- Candidate has excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to create concise and thorough reports, presentations and other documentations.
- Candidate is comfortable with the limits of their own knowledge and admits when they do not know the answer, but is driven to continue learning every day.
- Candidate can work multiple tasks concurrently on a tight schedule.

MINIMUM REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
- Master’s degree in Mechanical/Aerospace engineering or Bachelor’s with some relevant industry experience
- Proficient with finite element software
- Knowledge of stress-life fatigue, strain-life fatigue, crack growth analysis methods
- Programming capability for data manipulation and analysis workflow automation
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
- Fatigue software experience e.g. nCode Design Life, NASGRO
- FEA experience with ANSYS is preferred, NASTRAN or ABAQUS acceptable
- Programming knowledge in Python and MATLAB
- Active experience in testing for material fatigue characterization
- Involvement in structural fatigue testing
- Knowledge of fatigue and damage tolerance related regulations/requirements across different industries e.g. aircraft, railway, automobile, pressure vessel etc.
- Knowledge of fatigue and damage tolerance methods for non-metallic materials (e.g. composites, adhesives)
- Experience working in a startup environment or working in the initial stages of an engineering company, working to create or mature engineering processes
- Has seen multiple stages of product lifecycle
