Senior Propulsion Design Engineer
Company Overview:
Relativity is the first and only company to automate aerospace manufacturing by integrating intelligent robotics, software, and proprietary metal 3D printing technology. Disrupting 60 years of aerospace, Relativity offers a radically simplified supply chain, building a rocket with 100x fewer parts in less than 60 days. Our long-term goal is to upgrade humanity’s industrial base on Earth and on Mars.
Team:
The Propulsion team at Relativity Space is responsible for the design, development, testing, and manufacturing of Relativity’s entirely 3D printed rocket engines. As a part of this team, you will help build, create, and iterate on the full product lifecycle of our Aeon-1 and Aeon-R engine systems. Unique to Relativity, you will get to work across many teams to iterate and support Relativity's first-of-its-kind 3D printing software and robotics technology. This team is critical to the launch success of Terran 1 and the development of Terran R, among many other firsts!
What you’ll do:
You will be responsible for the design, analysis, and build of hardware for our propulsion systems. Examples include the overall engine layout, fluid ducts, support structures, manifolds, turbopumps, thrust chambers, injectors, valves, and heat exchangers. Designs will be informed by both fluid and structural analytical and computational models. You will work closely with propulsion and vehicle teams to leverage the power of 3D printing and topology optimization to dramatically reduce the cost, weight, and part count. In order to be successful in this role, you should be someone who thrives in ambiguity and is able to lead their own projects into completion.
What you need to know:
- Bachelor's degree in an engineering field
- 4+ years of experience with engine design
- Experience with computer aided design software
- Strong understanding of fluid, thermal, and structural fundamentals
- Strong drive to deliver on ambitious schedules
Nice to haves but not required – if you do not meet all of these criteria, you should still apply:
- 6+ years relevant experience
- Experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and commercial tools such as Ansys, Abaqus, or Nastran
- Experience in the design of liquid propulsion components and systems
We believe varied perspectives & backgrounds strengthen our team. Prior experience in aerospace is not required.
Relativity Space offers competitive salary and equity, a generous vacation policy, an annual L&D stipend and more!
We are an equal opportunity employer and value diversity at our company. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status.
