Team:

Relativity seeks a highly talented Staff Additive Development Engineer (CSAM) to join a rapidly growing space startup. The Additive Development team is responsible for development and maturing the core additive manufacturing technology used to product Relativity’s orbital class launch vehicles. The Cold Spray Engineering Team develops, refines, qualifies, and performs novel CSAM methods specific to Relativity’s additive manufacturing methods.

What you’ll do:

You will play a key role in driving and developing processes to support various of components on the upcoming Terran R vehicle - including Propulsion and Structures efforts. You will work closely with Robotics and Materials engineering teams to deliver world-class additive hardware. Additionally, you will help build an outstanding Cold Spray department at the cutting edge of commercial aerospace.

  • Serve as subject matter expert for cold spray additive manufacturing with ownership of relevant requirements, criteria and verification activities
  • Demonstrate novel additive manufacturing technologies and approaches to enable Aeon R
  • Continuously improve the entire organization's approach to Cold Spray additive manufacturing
  • Leverage expertise to inform design for cold spray additive and drive printing success and consistency to 100%
  • Provide strategic input into the AM technical roadmap based on industry knowledge and feedback
  • Define, document, and lead campaigns for system modeling, material application & development, and process improvements
  • Manage a portfolio of projects as Principal Investigator, execute per the scope and deliverables, and provide technical guidance to the project team to deliver high quality results
  • Collaborate with adjacent stakeholders including engineering design teams to develop and qualify acceptance criteria for specific components, processes, and continue to mature the CSAM Program strategy for Relativity Space development for our newest re-useable rocket, Terran R.

On a weekly basis, you will be providing guidance for the team, upholding the highest level of accountability, reviewing or performing process development. You will also use your strong organizational skills to properly manage the documentation and communication of your team’s actions, recommendations, and decisions.

What you need to know:

  • Degree in engineering or related technical field and 8+ years working with high pressure cold spray systems and processes
  • Industry-leading expertise in high pressure cold spray systems and applications
  • Demonstrated history of successfully developing process parameters for various of aerospace grade materials from scratch 
  • Experience identifying and solving common cold spray process and system issues 
  • Demonstrated success working cross-functionally with multiple department leaders to drive organizational improvements.
  • Strong communication skills, and ability to convey deep technical concepts to broad audiences.
  • Demonstrated Experience in Cold Spray System Layouts and Needs
  • General knowledge of metals and metallurgy involving a wide range of metals and metal alloys
  • Working knowledge of typical manufacturing execution systems (MES) and quality management systems

Nice to haves but not required:

  • A graduate degree in engineering or related field and 15+ years relevant experience
  • Experience leading integrated teams
  • Familiarity with rocket propulsion system concepts
  • Expertise in multiple technical domains (e.g. Materials)
  • Experience with data collection and management (eg SQL)
  • New product introduction of an aerospace hardware system into a manufacturing, test, and production system with proven success
