Summary of Responsibilities
As the Space Vehicle Bus engineer for a Major Systems Acquisition program, the Senior Project Engineer will work independently to provide technical oversight to all aspects of development for a critical National space systems satellite. Responsibility will span all phases of the satellite life cycle from space vehicle bus requirements development, to hardware development and integration, to system test, to launch, transfer, and initialization operations. Direct responsibilities will include overseeing the assembly, integration, and test of bus structures and bus units, structural analysis, and the verification of spacecraft deployments. The responsibilities include interfacing directly with contractor and customer personnel and working collaboratively within a small team of government, SETA, and other Aerospace on a fast-paced Firm Fixed Price contract. This position provides the unique career opportunity to provide high value and high visibility support to a critical National space system from hardware integration and test through initialization and early operations.
Key functions

Lead and participate in evaluation of contractor plans and procedures to build, integrate and test spaceflight hardware

Oversee space vehicle bus structures development, bus hardware unit integration, and space vehicle deployments

Identify and facilitate assessment by Aerospace engineering matrix of mechanical and structural analyses and communicate results to customer and Aerospace leadership

Participate in efforts to evaluate performance of as-built hardware comparing it to customer requirements and as-designed performance

Support contractor’s anomaly investigations of bus hardware development, integration, and test

Identify anomalies or other issues that may require Aerospace engineering matrix and routinely communicate such issues to line management

Oversee test processes and support testing for qualification, acceptance and requirements verification

Monitor status of hardware development efforts to keep the program informed and to provide technical assessments of issues and impacts to schedules and milestone payments.

Develop, communicate, and represent technical positions on customer and program-related issues to customer and Aerospace leadership, and provide recurring weekly reporting and other required documentation

Demonstrate high level of self-motivation to search for, identify, and prioritize technical issues and develop solutions

Proactively engage with the joint government, Aerospace, and SETA team in providing technical support on site at contractor’s facility in El Segundo, CA

Establish strong rapport with contractor team, demonstrating high value-added in a collaborative environment
Required

Bachelor’s degree in engineering, the physical sciences, or a related field from an accredited institution

12 or more years of space vehicle development experience

Experience with space vehicle assembly, integration, and test
-
Strong interpersonal, collaborative, and customer interface skills

Excellent written and oral communication skills
-
Ability to occasionally travel (approximately 10 percent)

This position requires the ability to have and maintain a current and active TS/SSBI/SCI security clearance, which is issued by the U.S. government. U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance

Preferred

Advanced degree in engineering, the physical sciences or a related field from an accredited institution

Experience with space system and hardware acquisition that includes technical leadership

Experience in a direct support role to a space system acquisition office

Experience directing and managing Aerospace engineering matrix
