Connexity Hitwise is looking for a talented, highly motivated and experienced Software Engineer.  We are not a LAMP stack shop, but rather a NoSQL, Big Data, Spark processing shop. Our architecture is unique and our software stack purposefully diverse. Duties and responsibilities

• Participate in the architecture, design and development of large-scale, multi-tiered, distributed software applications, tools, systems and services
• Design "big data" systems and ETL pipelines that can linearly scale
• Analyze data sources for quality and emerging patterns
• Participate in the full software development life cycle, end-to-end, from scoping, planning, conception, design, implementation and testing, to documentation, delivery and maintenance, using best practice engineering standards
• Develop core technology and the refinement of existing code
• Work with business and operations teams to effectively execute requests in the project queue
• Write design specifications, programming specifications, and documentation
• Develop and maintain applications written in a Java/J2EE platform environment, operating on a Linux platform
• Maintaining applications written in Python and Bash Shell
• Collaborate with product management to produce functional specifications, including feasibility assessments, engineering time estimates, and strategic value assessments
• Support production deployments
• Code most difficult and complex software modules
• Ability to drive critical and strategic / complex / high risk undertakings
• Determine leading edge technical / business approaches and/or develops major new technical tools

Qualifications

• 7+ years Engineering experience
• 5+ years of hands-on development experience
• 2+ years of working on "big data" projects
• Experience in data modeling
• Experience with implementing and maintaining data pipelines
• Experience developing unit and system tests.
• Experience with multiple scalable SQL, NoSQL, and distributed computing solutions, ala Redshift, Hbase, Redis, Spark, and Impala
• Experience in cloud and on premise deployments and performance tuning of distributed systems
• Must be able to design solutions within the context on the available infrastructure, taking into account scalability, availability, reliability, stability, security and performance
• Must be familiar with a broad range of systems, API's, protocols, and standards
• Must be detailed oriented
• Must be able to work with minimal direction
• Must be comfortable working on a team as well as solo
• Hands-on design and implementation experience
• Experience with debugging and tuning applications
• Experience with designing highly available, scalable enterprise systems
• Experience with Web Services architecture
• Expert in programming languages and frameworks important to the organization, including but not limited to Java/J2EE, Spring, Scala, Python, and Bash Shell.
