ABOUT THE ROLE:
We are the NBCUniversal Operations & Technology group - responsible for the design, implementation, and operation of services key to the processing and delivery of content for NBCUniversal's consumer-facing digital products and experiences. Our group of product managers, software engineers, software quality engineers, and operations folks are based in New York City, Los Angeles and points in between.
We need an experienced software engineer with a broad background to enhance and support complex media ordering and delivery services. We have a very collaborative environment and a distributed team, so we need someone who is conscientious, energetic, and passionate. We need an engineer who is very good at influencing and teaching their fellow technologists. We are a mature Agile/Scrum shop and work in two-week sprints. This role can be either on-site or remote.
REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must have 5+ years of experience in the field
  • Must have experience building scalable, high-volume services and applications
  • Hands-on experience with Java and REST based webservices
  • Hands-on experience developing with databases (e.g. Oracle, MySQL)
  • Demonstrable proficiency working on Linux servers
  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments
  • Must be comfortable in multitasking and prioritizing tasks
  • Have strong communication skills in collaborating with other teams
  • Proficient at dealing with support requests and/or troubleshooting
  • Able to come up with creative solutions and implementations
  • You must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis and located in the US


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience installing Java based applications on new Linux server instances
  • Experience working with AWS services such as S3 and Cognito
  • Experience working with network storage devices
  • Experience working with Tape Library
  • Experience working with file transfer services such as SFTP, Aspera, Signiant
  • Experience working with Continuous Integration / Continuous Deployment Software
