We are seeking a Sr. Software Engineer (Data) to join our team.

The Senior Software Engineer (data) is responsible for building data-intensive applications to support Deep 6’s mission of providing an industry-leading search interface to support clinical trial recruitment. The Deep 6 Data Team is responsible for handling various sources of medical data at all stages of the pipeline, including:

-initial ingestion & standardization

-annotation

-index creation & querying

The successful applicant will be responsible for building out new and existing pipelines and contributing to architectural decisions with a focus on throughput, scalability, fault-tolerance, correctness and inspectability, and security and HIPAA-compliance. They will also be responsible for maintaining datastores and providing access APIs to support various use cases, ranging from the front-end application to the data science team.

About You:

• Strong object-oriented programming skills, with fluency in Java, Kotlin, or Scala. Bonus points for Python competence
• Significant experience in the Hadoop ecosystem
• Knowledge of Spark and/or MapReduce is essential
• Knowledge of different types of databases, their applications, and strengths and weaknesses
• Experience with Avro, Thrift, Protobuf, etc.

Nice to haves

• Experience with HIPAA compliance
• Experience working with AWS
• Experience with stream processing (e.g. Flink, Spark Streaming)
• Knowledge of natural language processing and/or machine learning
• HBase or similar non-relational experience. Strong understanding of issues in distributed, eventually-consistent environments
• Experience working with Electronic Health Records
• Knowledge of medicine, genomics, etc.
