Responsibilities
The Innovation Lab (iLab) at The Aerospace Corporation is developing next-generation capabilities for space. Through R&D projects that combine our space expertise with emerging technologies in AI, robotics, gaming platforms, modularity, and cloud computing, we prototype new space mission applications for national defense and human exploration. The Slingshot Program is one such effort, with a focus on developing modularity technologies and business models to dramatically reduce the time and effort to build satellites.
As the Slingshot Lead, you will be leading a multi-organizational team that is developing flight prototypes for our plug-n-play satellite platform. The lead is a technologist at heart who can manage project teams, budgets, and schedules. In this role, you will be leading a team that is working on the Slingshot 1 satellite for launch in late 2021.
Key Functions
Project manage across multiple payload teams developing the Slingshot 1 satellite
Manage mission operations
Portfolio manage a set of R&D projects focused on modularity
Communicate to customers the value and benefits of Slingshot
Expand upon the Slingshot strategy and development plans
Project manage or support the development of a modular ground system
Participate in and support innovation initiatives within the iLab Team
Qualifications
Required
Bachelor’s degree in science, engineering, technology, computer science, or business
Minimum 8 years of relevant experience in satellite development or related fields
Lead development of the Slingshot satellites
Lead development of mission CONOPS and manage operations
Manage an R&D portfolio of modularity projects
This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, which is issued by the US government. U.S citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance
Preferred
Masters, PhD, or other advanced degree in science, engineering, technology, computer science, or business
12 or more years of experience in satellite development or related fields
Support strategy and planning for future Slingshots
Support communications, partnerships, and development activities
Support architecting and development of ground systems
