Propulsion Manufacturing Engineer
Relativity seeks a highly talented Propulsion Manufacturing Engineer to join a rapidly growing space startup. This position will provide outstanding technical leadership in the manufacturing of hardware for the Aeon 1 propulsion system. A high degree of autonomy is required.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead the manufacturing, production, assembly, and testing of propulsion components for the Aeon 1 program
- Work closely with machine shops and vendors to design and build fluid parts designed for manufacturability and additive manufacturing.
- Run component and system level testing of propellant feed systems, analyze data and test results, and troubleshoot hardware and performance.
- Resolve and analyze manufacturing and test discrepancies
- Create and maintain build schedules
- Perform component testing and integration, and support system verification, validation, safety, maintainability, and flightworthiness.
- Work with design engineers to develop, evaluate, and improve manufacturing methods using knowledge of product design, materials and parts, assembly methods, and quality control standards.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced and intense startup environment.
- Ability to complete projects with ownership of end-to-end solutions and minimal oversight.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
- An undergraduate or graduate degree (BS/MS/PhD) in mechanical, aerospace, astronautical engineering or related field and 3+ years relevant experience
- ProE/CREO experience or equivalent and CAM software with an understanding and application of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) per ASME Y14.5-1994.
- Strong Experience with DMLS and SLS additive manufacturing, welding, precision cleaning, and NDT for aerospace products
- Strong understanding and experience working with additive manufacturing techniques for aerospace products
- Ability to work in a fast-paced and intense startup environment.
- Ability to complete projects with ownership of end-to-end solutions and minimal oversight.
- Proven judgment in making coupled technical and business decisions balancing both big picture and execution-oriented factors.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
- Prior experience with spacecraft, launch vehicle, and/or aircraft propulsion systems
- Foundational knowledge in metallurgy
- Expert experience in machining, welding, and drilling
