What if you could use your technology skills to develop a product that impacts the way communities, hospitals, homes, sports stadiums, and schools across the world are built? Construction impacts the lives of nearly everyone in the world, and yet it’s also one of the world’s least digitized industries, not to mention one of the most dangerous. That’s why we’re looking for an experienced Principal Software Engineer to join Procore’s journey to revolutionize a historically underserved industry.

As a Principal Software Engineer Procore’s Cloud Platform Orchestration team, you’ll help build the core of Procore’s cloud platform—a reliable, extensible, API-driven service orchestration platform capable of running thousands of services across the globe. We approach our work as an internal “product team”, iteratively shipping new platform features with the goal of reducing friction and facilitating self-service for every engineer at Procore. If you have a passion for creating amazing experiences for your fellow engineers—we have a spot for you on this newly formed team!

This position reports to the Manager, Cloud Platform Orchestration and can be based in our Carpinteria, CA headquarters, New York City, NY, or Austin, TX offices. Remote candidates will be considered based on experience with the expectation of occasional travel to these offices. We’re looking for someone to join our team immediately.

What you’ll do:

  • Lead your team to envision, design, and develop the container orchestration system at the core of Procore’s cloud platform in alignment with the Cloud Systems Engineering Vision
  • Build platform features that unlock global self-service capabilities for service authors and allow platform extensibility by other platform engineers
  • Partner with customers, peers, and leadership in planning, prioritization, and roadmap development
  • Lead architectural design decisions that improve scalability and performance
  • Identify opportunities across the broader organization for adopting and implementing cloud-native solutions
  • Develop teammates by conducting code reviews, providing mentorship, pairing, and training opportunities
  • Serve as the subject matter expert of your domain including tools, processes, and procedures that help guide others to create and maintain a healthy codebase
  • Facilitate an “open source” mindset and culture both across teams internally and outside of Procore through active participation in and contributions to the greater community
  • Represent your team in the Cloud Systems Engineering Tech Leads group

What we're looking for:

  • BS or MS degree in Computer Science or a related discipline; or comparable work experience - Technical Certifications are a plus
  • 12+ years of combined experience as a Software, Resiliency or Reliability Engineer with coding experience in one or more languages - Golang, Rust preferred
  • AWS or Kubernetes certifications
  • Demonstrable experience operating Kubernetes clusters at a global scale in Production
  • Contribution to major open source projects - CNCF graduated or incubated preferred
  • Experience working with software, platforms, and infrastructure at scale (we run thousands of hosts and have millions of users)
  • Strong experience documenting and driving process improvements
  • Experience as a technical leader on large initiatives with the ability to course-correct as needed
  • Demonstrable collaboration across multiple teams to achieve outcomes
  • Experience with the following technologies is preferred:
    • Public cloud (AWS, GCP)
    • Cloud automation tooling (e.g. CloudFormation, Terraform, Ansible)
    • Continuous Deployment Tooling (e.g. ArgoCD, Spinnaker)
    • Service Mesh / Discovery Tooling (e.g. Consul, Envoy, Istio, Linkerd)
