THE PURPOSE:

The Power Electronics Test Engineer is responsible for developing AC and DC electrical control and auxiliary power circuits for electrical power equipment and systems. Additionally this candidate will collaborate with power electronics engineer, firmware engineer, and mechanical engineer to design, test and validate custom equipment and system prototypes.

THE ROLE (what you are accountable for)

  • Work with power electronics firmware, software, and hardware design teams to define new features and test plans.
  • Design and build testbench, able to understand pcb schematic and AutoCAD drawing.
  •  Define design validation test plan to ensure prototype performance is covered and validation/integration gaps are eliminated.
  • Give guidance to electrical technicians on how to build industrial control equipment.
  • Work within common electrical practices and standards: NFPA 79, OSHA, NEC, CE, UL
  • Design, implement and debug PLC programs to interface with test equipment and data systems
  • Design upper layer HMI to interface with hardware equipment under test, implement standard industrial comm protocols: RS-234, 485 / serial, Ethernet IP, USB
  • Specify components and sub systems: breakers, fuses, power supplies, relays, sensors, I/O systems, PLCs, servo motors.
  • Generate bills of materials and specifications
  • Work with team members to test and validate custom equipment and system prototypes
  • Maintain engineering data base.

 

REQUIRED MINIMUM EXPERIENCE

  • BS degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
  • Experience with sensors and data aquisition (using labview or any standard tools)
  • Human-Machine Interface programming (labview, C#, C++, etc)
  • Strong experience in Python and Matlab (for automated regression, data analysis, and scripting).
  • Ability to rapidly understand a complicated electromechanical system and define an optimized test plan based on system requirements.
  • Experience on developing electrical schematics and panel drawings is preferred
  • Understand principles of fundamental circuit components – breakers, fuses, relays, etc.
  • Experience with safety circuits, E-stops, light curtains and safety relays.
  • PLC programming skills. Experience with Allen Bradley and Siemens PLC’s/HMI’s. Programming experience with RSLogix5000 and TIA Portal
  • Strong electrical wiring troubleshooting skills.
  • Up-to-date knowledge on relavent electrical codes and standards
  • Excellent communication skills
