Microwave Amplifier Engineer

In this role you will develop GaN microwave circuitry that will be placed into next-generation satellites. Apply your creativity to develop novel test sets and push microwave instrumentation to its limits. Deliver the technical information to our customers to solve tough technical problems that ultimately determine whether a payload can be launched with a high confidence of mission success. As consultants to our government customers, we immediately impact the direction and development of payloads for both small and large satellites. This position can be filled as an Aerospace Senior Member of Technical Staff or Engineering Specialist
**This role is open to candidates willing and able to work at least 50% on-site in general laboratory conditions following corporate COVID-19 guidelines at our Aerospace El Segundo, CA location**
**This candidate must have experience in the design of microwave or millimeter-wave high-power amplifiers or low-noise amplifiers in MIC or MMIC technologies.**
Key Functions
In this role you can expect to perform OR learn to perform the following Key Functions:
- Develop MIC and/or MMIC designs in support of GaN amplifier capability and reliability studies
- Solve microwave hardware anomalies by applying analytical and experimental methods
- Develop and apply advanced microwave measurement techniques
- Perform budget, circuit and full-wave simulations of microwave components, and systems
- Document work products in briefings and/or technical reports to customers and colleagues
- Participate in technical meetings with Aerospace internal and external customers, and external contractors
- It is very important to be hands-on, willing to learn, comfortable in working in a dynamic environment of varying requirements and tasks, and able to collaborate with engineers and technicians of diverse backgrounds and expertise
Qualifications
Required
- Master of Science degree from an accredited university in Electrical Engineering or another related discipline with 5 or more years of industry experience (Time spent obtaining a Ph.D. counts toward this)
- Experience with ADS or Microwave Office, HFSS or CST, MATLAB, RF circuit layout, and instrument control
- Experience using and evaluating data obtained from network and spectrum analyzers and oscilloscopes
- Ability to handle a dynamic environment, open-ended tasks, and multitask
- Effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
- This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret level security clearance with SCI / SSBI access which is issued by the U.S. government. U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance
Required for consideration as an Engineering Specialist (In Addition)
- Master of Science degree from an accredited university in Electrical Engineering or another related discipline with 8 or more years of industry experience (Time spent obtaining a Ph.D. counts toward this)
- Ability to build RF hardware or systems
- Experience with research or solution of engineering anomalies
Preferred
- Ph.D. from an accredited university in Electrical Engineering or another related discipline
- Experience with mitigation or exploitation of nonlinearities in microwave systems
- Experience with high power microwave systems
