WHY WE NEED YOU

To build the next evolution in high speed travel with hyperloops, we need to do it with the right materials that get the job done. The Materials team helps to provide creative material solutions that meet cost, performance, and sustainability requirements. This is where you come in!

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Work with design teams in selecting materials and processes to utilize in products with specialized design and performance specifications
  • Assist in specifying testing for materials validation and qualification; considering material properties, processing, environment, life, and cost
  • Develop new uses for known materials
  • Assist with material sample preparation and testing:
    • Tests include performance and degradation evaluations as well as failure analyses.
    • Testing must meet internal design and performance requirements, as well as external requirements that support certification of the Virgin Hyperloop system.
  • Assist in identifying reliability concerns (corrosion, wear, thermal, UV, creep, etc.) in products and designs across the Virgin Hyperloop system, and work with design & manufacturing teams to create reliable processes and products
  • Ensure compliance with Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) guidelines and promote improvements to enhance efficiency and safety in the laboratories and other work areas
  • Occasional travel to our Las Vegas test site as needed

WHAT YOU'VE DONE

  • Bachelor's degree in Materials Engineering or other engineering field with materials experience
  • Prior internship/Co-Op experience with material lab/testing equipment
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and collaboration skills
  • Basic to intermediate experience with MS Office
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts versus assumptions and drawing conclusions
  • Excellent organization skills, including the ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, handle multiple tasks simultaneously, work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to plan, execute, and present investigation results to drive decisions, using data and statistical analysis along with sound technical judgement
  • Ability to think creatively and adapt to changes
  • Ability to work cooperatively through complex material issues

NICE TO HAVE

  • Master’s degree in Material Sciences/Engineering
  • Previous industry work experience in Materials Engineering
