 THE PURPOSE:

The Component Test Manager is responsible for managing all aspects of VHO’s hardware component R&D, prototyping, and qualification testing needs. This individual is expected to lead test planning & execution initiatives of hardware components, manage staffing plans, fiscal planning, resource and project planning and reporting. This individual will be required to interact with engineering resources within the Core Engineering Organization and the Product Development and Systems Engineering organizations. This individual is also accountable for Process and Procedural Development including continuous improvement activities. 


THE ROLE:

As the Manager of this group, you will: 

  • Work cross-functionally to define, plan, coordinate, and execute engineering-wide component R&D and qualification test campaigns.
  • Implement & continually improve effective hardware test strategies, methodologies and processes.
  • Grow the component test group.
  • Provide effective leadership and manage employee and organizational expectations.
  • Mentor direct reports on “Best Practices” and Engineering Principles
  • Develop fiscal and project specific budget plans. Provide regular updates on spend, budgetary adjustments and justifications for new capital requirements. 
  • Work closely with the Engineering Project Management Office to ensure schedules, risks and issues are consistent and up to date.
  • Establish and maintain a safe, collaborative and team-oriented work environment.
  • Maintain familiarity with the changing technical landscape and seek to implement new methods and technologies where relevant
  • Identifies opportunities in the test group to improve test capabilities and procedures to achieve increased efficiency.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

  • Willing to be hands-on with laboratory equipment and enjoy working in a highly integrated software/hardware environment
  • Team oriented: Comfortable and energized by working in a team with a wide variety of backgrounds and skillsets. You welcome constructive feedback and different perspectives
  • Passionate about delivering the Hyperloop to the world
  • Keen attention to detail
  • Willing to travel as needed to support testing needs
  • Extensive experience with managing test programs
  • Proven experience with managing & growing testing teams


MINIMUM REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience in R&D, prototyping, and qualification of complex technologies in a lead/manager role
  • Capable of creating, managing, and executing effective test programs in a rapid development environment
  • Experience in developing requirements-driven test plans and procedures
  • Experience working in a highly integrated software/hardware environment
  • Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot complex issues
  • Solid understanding of test engineering principles
  • Strong management skills with 8 years of managing multi-disciplined high performing teams
  • Strong communication, presentation and technical writing skills


PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • B.S. or advanced degree in Engineering or equivalent field
  • Experience testing and qualifying safety critical systems.
  • Experience managing large-scale testing projects from inception through closure
