Who we are

Sensible is built to help consumers and businesses understand, plan for, and mitigate all types of climate and weather risk. We work at the intersection of deep technology, science and experience design. Our first product embeds with travel and outdoor events partners, offering their customers a guarantee against bad weather. This means a customer can have confidence that they will have a great time in the sun. If not, they get their money back!

We recognize that we're living in a world with more climate disruption than ever before. We also believe that it is one of unprecedented opportunity for solutions.

With rich data from satellites and other developing technologies, we have the right information, engineering, and technology to help us relate to our environment with a new kind of awareness and understanding.

Sensible is a team built on trust, feedback, and communication. We recognize that diversity of background, skills, and experiences makes stronger teams. We are, therefore, an equal opportunity employer.

An Insider's view of Sensible Weather

How would you describe the company’s work-life balance?

Work-life balance is not just a buzzword, but is visible every day. We all value having time for the things we love - from sailing, to climbing, to painting - and with friends and family. This, along with trust in each other and accountability for ourselves, creates a flexible space where we work with people as interesting as the problems we solve.

What kinds of technical challenges do you and your team face?

We have exciting technical challenges around handling large geospatial data with low latency, building developer tooling to help scale, and finishing the foundation of our web application architectures - all with a focus on maintainability and ergonomics. The team is incredibly competent and down to earth, providing opportunities for skills growth.

What makes someone successful on your team?

It takes thoughtful and open communication to successfully operate within a team that consistently solves truly challenging problems - we aim to amount to more than the sum of our parts.
Someone who’s naturally collaborative, conscientious, curious, and driven will find themselves quite at home at the collective here at Sensible.

How do your team's ideas influence the company's direction?

Innovation at Sensible is driven by the core principle of collaboration. Our quarterly strategy and roadmap documents are a result of all the team conversations and collaboration that go into understanding our users, market, and opportunities. Cross-functional working teams get to own and drive the direction, results, and continued learnings.

What's something quirky about your company?

We unintentionally have a yearly mascot animal. No one decides what this animal is, it just become clear at some point during the year that this animal has played an outsized role in team conversations. In 2020 it was the penguin, 2021 was the goat, it’s looking like 2022 might be the year of the llama, but you really just have to wait and see.
