Company Overview:

Relativity is the first and only company to automate aerospace manufacturing by integrating intelligent robotics, software, and proprietary metal 3D printing technology. Disrupting 60 years of aerospace, Relativity offers a radically simplified supply chain, building a rocket with 100x fewer parts in less than 60 days. Our long-term goal is to upgrade humanity’s industrial base on Earth and on Mars.

Team:

Relativity is creating the first autonomous rocket factory. Our vision is to build the future of humanity in space – starting with rockets. We have an ambitious mission, and we understand that it takes a team to achieve it. This is why we are growing and looking for team members to join us that feel just as excited and driven to accomplish something that has not been done before, together.

The Integration team at Relativity Space pulls together the efforts of all other vehicle and manufacturing teams to deliver flight-ready vehicles for test and launch.  To meet our goals, we will build best in class manufacturing, test, and quality control processes to keep our team moving fast while still producing high quality, well understood products. The Lead Integration Engineer will be responsible for providing guidance, support, and enabling a small team of engineers focused on building and testing our Terran Launch Vehicle. Equal parts team leader and individual contributor, the Lead Integration Engineer will be spearheading our first build and test vehicle campaign as well as laying the ground for our long-term vision. The Lead Integration Engineer will report the Manager of Vehicle Integration & Test.

What you’ll do:

To be successful in this role, you need to be a self-starter that is able to thrive in ambiguity, identify problems and quickly resolve them, and provide definition to the previously undefined. You will set the tone for how mBOM’s are architected and work orders are written, how issues on the floor are addressed, and how test operations are run on the vehicle. You will be a trail blazer for the company, so you need to be self-motivated and able to influence both Engineering and Production to effectively implement your plans. You will need to be comfortable with desk work such as writing work instructions and analyzing test data as well as hands on work setting up work cells, assembling hardware and running test operations and sitting on the floor with the production teams. You should be comfortable operating and troubleshooting complicated systems comprised of mechanical hardware, electronic hardware, and software.

  • Lead and develop a team of 2-5 integration engineers of all levels to deliver manufacturing, integration, and test definition to the production team, delivering flight ready stages to the test and launch sites
  • Manage day-to-day activities of your engineering team and ensure team meeting program deliverables.
  • Own integrated assemblies from design release thru Integration to shipment—lay out the build and test flow to ensure an efficient, high-quality product flow capable of scaling with time.
  • Drive the assembly’s integration effort through design integration, assembly sequencing,mBOMdevelopment, and build and test work order instruction creation.
  • Forecast and plan your work cell’s operational requirements by considering assembly operations, tooling and capital equipment requirements, and rate targets.
  • Work with Vehicle Test engineer resource to match the vehicle test plan with vehicle build and assembly to efficiently verify the build and performance of the vehicle as an integrated system.
  • Assist with developing the business tools and processes that will be used to manufacture our launch vehicle.
  • Develop strong working relationships with both Engineering and Factory Development teams to ensure all company objectives can be met.
  • Leverage software and automation to rapidly integrate and check out stages while maintaining an accurate record of the as-planned and as-built configurations

What you need to know:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in aerospace, mechanical, electrical, manufacturing engineering or related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience building and testing hardware in a NPI manufacturing environment.
  • Extensive experience authoring work instructions and/or test procedures to build and checkout interdisciplinary integrated assemblies.
  • Experience interfacing with design engineering, manufacturing, and production personnel.
  • Experience planning and test conducting hardware-critical operations.
  • Working knowledge of rocket subsystems including structures, mechanisms, high pressure fluids systems, and avionics.
  • Expert in at least 2 of the following: Harness routing, cable harness manufacturing, instrumentation handling and checkouts, welding, trim and drill operations, Oxygen systems cleanliness, mechanical fastening and torquing operations, tube manufacturing, systems integration and test, tool design and fab, work center development

Nice to haves but not required:

  • Self-starter that has demonstrated the ability to define and own a process from scratch and roll out that process through adept communication to a diverse team.
  • New product introduction of an aerospace hardware system into a manufacturing, test, and production system with proven success
  • Experience developing user interfaces for manufacturing and test execution
  • Working knowledge of typical manufacturing execution systems and quality management systems.
  • Experience with direct reports in an engineering function.
