Head of Propulsion Engineering
Relativity seeks a highly talented Head of Propulsion Engineering to join a rapidly growing space startup. The Head of Propulsion Engineering will help build and lead a team of engineers to develop propulsion systems for our orbital rocket vehicle. A high degree of autonomy and leadership is required.
Responsibilities
- Strategic planning of projects and resources, including budgets and personnel
- Managing direct reports, including recruiting, developing, coaching, team building, and performance management
- Leading the development of propulsion systems
- Own development, qualification, and acceptance test plans in support of our testing facility at NASA Stennis Center
- Develop and train direct reports to enable product ownership
- Solid interpersonal skills to interact with both internal and external groups to overcome associated constraints
- Background working in a fast paced, full cycle, R&D environment
- Strong Analytical and problem-solving skills
- Develop Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) for the propulsion team in alignment to the company OKRs
- Manage short- and long-term development schedules
Required Experience
- Bachelors in an engineering field
- 10+ years professional experience designing, manufacturing and/or developing propulsion systems
- Track record of leading, scaling, and managing a 5 to 10 person team while interfacing with other engineering groups
Preferred Experience
- Advanced degree in Engineering
- Experience with PTC/Creo and ANSYS or similar design and analysis software
- Substantial hands on experience with propulsion systems and components
- Knowledge of liquid rocket engine design and test specifications
- Deep understanding of thermodynamics, compressible and incompressible flow, thermochemistry mechanics, structural design in demanding environments, design for additive manufacturing, and/or materials
- Track record of leading, scaling, and managing a 10 to 50 person team while interfacing with other engineering groups
This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a United States Person as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required.
