Responsibilities
Acts as senior technical authority, consultant, primary investigator, and team leader in support of evaluating launch vehicle providers to launch National Security Space (NSS) missions. May lead or organize interactions between the customer (Space Force), Aerospace technical staff and contractors, and coordinate large-scale multidisciplinary efforts for Structural systems. This position can be filled as a Level 2: Project Engineer or as Level 3: Sr. Project Engineer.
Key Functions
- Manage Structural systems activities, which includes both composites and Metallic structural systems
- Coordinate multi-discipline engineering team efforts to ensure that launch vehicle designs, analysis, testing and documentation are compliant with Space Force requirements
- Lead and facilitate collaborative efforts between the Space Force and launch vehicle providers to evaluate their vehicle designs, qualification and operational capability
- Provide technical advice and recommendations to resolve or mitigate risk associated with Structural systems used on vehicles to launch NSS missions
- Effectively communicate status and progress of technical activities, issues, and accomplishments through reports and briefings to Aerospace, Space Force, and contractor teams
- Build and maintain close working relationships with the Aerospace team, Space Force counterparts, contractor responsible engineers, and representatives from other government agencies
- Work with management to develop resource allocations plans and schedules as needed

Qualifications
Required
- B.S. in mechanical engineering/structural mechanics or related field from a recognized institution
- 8 or more years of applicable experience with increasing responsibility
- Experience with design and/or testing of Structural systems (e.g. composites, metallics)
- Must have experience coordinating and/or participating in multi-disciplinary technical team efforts
- Current Secret Clearance or the ability to obtain/maintain a Secret Clearance, which is issued by the U.S. government. U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.
Required for Sr. Project Engineer
- B.S. in mechanical engineering/structural mechanics or related field from a recognized institution
- 12 or more years of applicable experience with increasing responsibility
- Experience with design and/or testing of mechanism and mechanical systems (e.g. moving mechanical assemblies, hydraulic actuators, pneumatic systems)
- Must have experience coordinating technical team efforts
- Current Secret Clearance or the ability to obtain/maintain a Secret Clearance, which is issued by the U.S. government. U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.
- Must have experience leading team comprised of diversely skilled engineers servicing a major portion of a large project or working across projects, and interfaces regularly with customer and contractor program management
Preferred
- MS degree in mechanical engineering/structural mechanics or related field from a recognized institution
- Experience with testing and/or analysis of Structural systems used on launch vehicle (e.g. composites and metallic structures)
- Experience with systems engineering and verification of requirements
- Experience with modeling and simulation of dynamic events (e.g. stage separation)
- Knowledge and experience with Aerospace launch verification processes
