The right person for this role will have a deep understanding of cloud architecture and the ability to share knowledge throughout the team. The ability to design robust systems that anticipate failures and prior experience in building durable systems is going to be key to success here.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the design and development of Erlang-based distributed systems supporting the Grindr platform
• Become a subject matter expert in Grindr’s messaging system handling 30k messages / second written entirely in Erlang
• Help drive and support continued innovation at Grindr
• Prototype and benchmark new architectures
• Apply TDD principles and other Software Engineering best practices
• Build with quality and integrity
• Ensure high availability, scalability, and fault tolerance of the Grindr platform
• Provide technical leadership and mentor junior team members

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience
• 2+ years of experience in Erlang/Elixir
• 4+ years of software engineering experience
• Deep knowledge of developing and maintaining concurrent non-blocking applications
• An understanding of transport protocols and message formats
• Direct experience with TDD and a strong understanding of Domain Driven Design
• Experience working on highly available distributed systems at scale
• Experience with chaos testing and designing for failure
• Experience using AWS technologies such as EC2, RDS, DynamoDB, and EKS
