Team:  

The Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) team is responsible for risk management and compliance as it relates to frontline operations and manufacturing processes. We develop programs, processes, controls, and other solutions aimed at preventing injuries in the workplace, and maintaining compliance to local, state, and federal regulations. Additionally, we play a pivotal role in shaping company culture; creating an environment that fosters safety and operational excellence for our employees at Relativity Space.  We are looking for best in class EHS professionals who are looking for a fresh experience to hone their craft and are excited at the prospect of shaping the future of spaceflight.  

 What you’ll do: 

The Environmental Engineer position will support our manufacturing, test, and launch sites to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal environmental policies and regulations. You will support efforts in navigating environmental regulations/requirements for implementing new technologies, process changes, facility upgrades, and site construction. You will spearhead coordination with regulatory agencies and department leads. 

Additionally, this person will be responsible for the following:  

Environmental Compliance  

  • Develop, administer, and implement multi-media permitting and environmental programs (air, industrial wastewater, stormwater, hazardous materials/waste) pursuant to local, state (CA, MS, FL), and federal requirements. 
  • Monitor pollution prevention activities to ensure compliance with CUPA and LARWQCB requirements. 
  • Perform engineering calculations for the purpose of evaluating project emissions and conducting health risk assessments. 
  • Implementation and management of SCAQMD Rule 109 recordkeeping. 
  • Lead hazardous waste management/disposal. 
  • Evaluate proposed regulations and determine impacts on company operations. 
  • Collecting soil, industrial wastewater, and stormwater samples. 
  • Develop environmental compliance strategies and company requirements. 

Site Assessment/Due Diligence 

  • Review environmental records to support environmental due diligence. 
  • Analyze and recognize potential environmental impact and compliance issues, as well as legacy environmental liabilities. 
  • Provide clear and concise findings, recommendations, and options. 
  • Managing scope, schedule, and budgets for projects issued to 3rd party consultants 

What you need to know: 

Bachelor’s degree in engineering, environmental sciences, or another related technical discipline and minimum 4+ years of environmental engineering/compliance experience in a manufacturing industry or other related environment is required. 

  • Prior technical and regulatory working knowledge of air district rules, state and federal regulatory programs, CEQA/NEPA assessment criteria. 
  • Prior track record of successful compliance work in dealing with various regulatory agencies. 
  • Ability to read and interpret local, state, and federal environmental regulations. 
  • Prior project manager, with the ability to juggle and execute multiple projects at one time 
  • Familiar with Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments. 
  • Familiar with site investigation and remedial strategies. 
  • Prior Experience delivering training pertaining to EHS topics.  
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organization skills. 
  • Ability to travel 25% to all Relativity Space locations (Vandenberg SFB, Stennis Space Center, Cape Canaveral SFB) 

Nice to have but not required: 

  • Any current PE, PG, QISP, CPP, CHMM, PMP or other professional environmental certification
