Responsibilities
The Innovation Lab (iLab) at The Aerospace Corporation is developing next-generation capabilities for space. Through R&D projects that combine our space expertise with emerging technologies in AI, robotics, gaming platforms, modularity, and cloud computing, we prototype new space mission applications for national defense and human exploration. The Slingshot Program is one such effort, with a focus on developing modularity technologies and business models to dramatically reduce the time and effort to build satellites.
As the Slingshot Engineer/Scientist, you will be working alongside a multi-organizational team that is developing flight prototypes for our plug-n-play satellite platform set for launch in late 2021. You should be a technologist at heart who can add value to project teams, budgets, and schedules.
Key Functions
You will be an individual contributor who will work alongside multiple payload teams developing the Slingshot 1 satellite
You should be familiar with mission operations
You may manage a set of R&D projects focused on modularity
Communicate to customers the value and benefits of Slingshot
Expand upon the Slingshot strategy and development plans
Support the development of a modular ground system
Participate in and support innovation initiatives within the iLab Team
Required
Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field or equivalent
Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in satellite development or related fields
This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, which is issued by the US government. U.S citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance
Preferred
Advanced degree in a Business, STEM field or equivalent
8 or more years of experience in satellite development or related fields
Support strategy and planning for future Slingshots
Support communications, partnerships, and development activities
Support architecting and development of ground systems
