Engineering Manager
We are looking for an Engineering Manager (EM) to coach and mentor; the EM guides the team towards advancing FabFitFun’s mission and business objectives. As a leader within the Engineering organization, you will ensure the consistent practice of FabFitFun engineering processes and standards. This is a management role within our management track. You will report to the Director of Engineering and collaborate cross-functionally with all of the FabFitFun teams.
What you’ll do:
- Lead, manage and mentor a current team of Software Engineers to execute on the current roadmap
- Oversee architecture for our new platform (Java/Microservices) as we containerize as we move away from a legacy PHP platform
- Run 1 on 1 meetings with direct reports, establishing expectations and providing feedback
- Represent team in cross organizational meetings.
- Outline and determine support and ownership of projects and code.
- Participate in Sprint related meetings such as standup, planning, costing, lead review, retrospective.
- Drive hiring for direct team as well as assisting in hiring across the rest of the engineering organization.
- Technical contributions such as code reviews, facilitating technical architectural discussions, and cross team integration details.
What You'll Need:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related technical discipline such as computer engineering, mathematics, etc. Master’s degree is a plus.
- At least ten years of overall professional professional experience.
- Four or more years of experience as a Software Engineer.
- Two to three years of experience directly managing a team of software engineers and a track record of having helped engineers grow.
- Experience leading other engineers and technical projects by tracking technical progress, conducting code reviews, assigning tasks and tickets, and defining technical requirements.
- Experience running technical interviews for Software Engineer candidates or candidates for related occupations.
- Experience working in a cross functional (product, QA, engineering) team-oriented environment.
- Advocate for and grow our team’s processes and best practices.
- Encourage technical and professional development, and for team members to write blog posts, give presentations, and talk about FabFitFun’s technology outside of FabFitFun.
- Work with other Engineering teams, ensuring requirements are considered and met for cross team projects.
- Influence key decisions on architecture and implementation of scalable, reliable, and cost-effective engineering solutions
- Iterate quickly without compromising quality and raise the bar on operational excellence
- Knowledge and experiences in an environment utilizing Agile practices.
- Experience with front-end languages such as React, CSS, Vanilla JS, and HTML or alternatively experience with backend-end languages such as PHP or Java.
- Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills with an ability to effectively communicate technical aspects cross-functionally.
- Knowledge and experience with software architectures and design patterns.
- Knowledge and experience with Test Driven Development and CI / CD as a culture.
- Able to align the strategies and goals of the organization with the work product produced by their team.
