THE PURPOSE:

 

As an Electrical Technician, you will support the assembly, integration, and testing of test related electrical systems. You’ll be responsible for wiring of custom designed, and off-the-shelf hardware including control circuits, power distribution circuits, sensors, and custom electrical enclosures. You will integrate hardware with existing facility electrical power services and or recommend facility power modifications and/or additions for new projects. You’ll perform configuration changes, repair work, troubleshooting, and test execution when required. This position requires the ability to plan and adapt to varying levels of technical data or instructions related to a task or project. You’ll come equipped with being able to read and interpret electrical schematics and manufacturer’s data sheets but can also work from written or verbal instructions with incomplete data. You’ll come in with working knowledge of how to build safe equipment using safe work practices and can readily identify hazards associated with electrical equipment. Last but not least, you will lead and develop less experienced technicians.

 

THE ROLE:

 

The Electrical Technician will:

  • Install custom and off the shelf hardware components and electrical circuits/systems using manufacturer’s and or existing internal documentation
  • Troubleshoot electrical systems and components using manufacturer’s and or existing internal documentation and the tools necessary to perform the job
  • Build, assemble, and wire electrical enclosures
  • Maintain lab and facility equipment
  • Participate in specifying requirements, additions and modifications for facility electrical power
  • Share and assert recommendations on electrical system component selection, system layout, wire routing, and other related design work to the hardware designers and/or responsible engineers.
  • Identify overlooked or excluded design elements of electrical systems and then formulate and suggest solutions to designers and responsible engineers
  • Use experience to recommend design improvements to electrical systems
  • Continuously expand current knowledge and skills to meet the changing needs of internal customers
  • Participate in creation of work plans for completion of complex projects and tasks
  • Learn and enforce Test Lab policies and procedures
  • Maintain a clean work environment
  • Manage and maintain a tool inventory necessary for executing daily tasks
  • Manage and maintain a consumables inventory necessary for executing daily tasks
  • Supervise and oversee the work of other personnel as a Senior electrical technician

Other Duties

  • Travel may be required (~15%)
  • All other duties as assigned

Physical Demands:

  • Physically able to crouch, walk, maneuver and lift objects up to 40 lbs. independently
  • Willing to work in extreme temperatures & cramped and/ or other uncomfortable environments

 

THE CANDIDATE:

 

An ideal candidate for this role will exhibit the following:

  • Ability and willingness to advise others about how unforeseen factors can affect the desired outcome
  • Working knowledge of tools and methods needed to complete the tasks and can appropriately document the work they performed
  • Willingness and ability to teach and explain what they are doing to others
  • Can work in a logical manner to solve problems and have a high attention to detail.
  • Can draw the correct conclusions from limited technical data or instruction to correctly carry out work assigned
  • Ability to work unsupervised in a safe, conscious manner
  • Knows their limitations and exercises good judgement
  • Possesses sound work ethics that serve to set the example for junior technicians

 

MINIMUM REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • A.S. in Electronics or expert-level experience working on electrical systems wiring in a lab environment or on complex systems (ex: Aircraft, Vehicle mechanical systems, or electrical systems)
  • Experience directing the work of less experienced technicians on projects
  • Ability to read and understand technical documentation including mechanical and electrical drawings
  • Competent troubleshooter with complete knowledge of theory and operating principles of electrical systems
  • History of meeting schedules and time lines
  • Clear and effective communicator; must demonstrate written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to interpret electrical schematics, shop drawings, sketches and work orders

 

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • 4-year technical degree in Electronics
  • 5 years of experience working in manufacturing, testing, or instrumentation environment
  • Experience with building or maintaining manufacturing equipment, automotive or air/space craft
  • Formal training in electrical safety
  • OHSA 10 or above
  • Fork Lift and or Rigging experience
