THE PURPOSE:

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to join our world-class Test Engineering team in making the hyperloop a reality. This individual will work closely in a fast-paced, agile environment during product development and V&V activities.

Test Engineering is responsible for developing, enforcing and implementing testing requirements and rigor as defined in cooperation with the Hyperloop One Safety/Certification team; design and implementation of testing equipment, instrumentation, facilities, procedures, processes, documentation including data management, safety protocols, prototype testing, life-cycle verification and oversight of all testing operations.

The Electrical Controls Engineer will be responsible for electrical design of test rigs needed to support Hyperloop product development, qualification, and certification.

 

THE ROLE:

As the Electrical Controls Engineer, you will:

  • Design electrical systems to support testing activities; includes specifying components, creating Bills of Materials (BOMs), electrical schematics and control panel layouts
  • Work with electrical technicians to get the test rigs built to design
  • Work with cross-functional stakeholders to integrate electrical systems with mechanical structures, mechanisms and civil engineering systems
  • Startup, commission, test and hand off test rigs to Test Engineering department
  • Support test planning, execution, and reporting activities
  • Travel to our Las Vegas test site to install and commission electrical control systems 

THE CANDIDATE:

MINIMUM REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Strong hands-on experience with design, development, and testing of Electrical Control Systems
  • Solid knowledge of Electrical Engineering principals
  • Solid experience of Electrical CAD (AutoCAD Electrical or similar)
  • Knowledgeable about sensor selection (pressure transducers, proximity switches, encoders, voltage/current sensors, safety sensors/switches), motor controllers, and mechanism/machines
  • Experience with data acquisition systems and test instrumentation
  • Solid understanding of NFPA79 and ISO13849
  • Experience sizing electrical wire, circuit breakers, fuses, relays and contactors
  • Experience designing 480VAC and lower power distribution systems

 

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, or related field
  • Experience with hydraulics and pneumatics
  • Programming experience with Allen Bradley/Siemens PLCs
  • Familiarity with arc flash analysis
  • Experience with placing electrical equipment in vacuum environments
  • Experience with safety circuits (safety relays or safety PLCs)
  • Experience with Failures Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA)
