Director, Software Architecture & R&D

The Director, Software Architecture & R&D will primarily be involved in utilizing research, development and testing skills and business acumen to create solutions to drive business success. We’re looking for an individual who is passionate about working on Wireless technologies.

• Working on new and upcoming Wireless technology standards and protocols
• Working on Mobile platforms and cutting edge web technologies in the Wireless domain
• Working closely with Boingo teams across the company, including Engineering and Marketing.
• Uses skills to evaluate, develop and test mobile & web frameworks, apps, systems & services.
• Create design and/or handoff documents to meet business objectives

Responsibilities

• Willing to work on new technologies and Industry standards in and around Software & System Architecture in Wireless and Networking domains.
• Work with the Vice President to architect, build, test solutions as demanded by Business needs
• Work on Cloud technologies (Amazon Web services, Azure, Google Cloud) technologies creating prototypes, system architectures, development and testing.
• Lead efforts with cross functional teams to define System architecture standards, priorities and appropriate activities. assists in testing of the related activities (planning/debugging/problem resolution) as needed
• Prototype, design, develop and test system enhancements to meet requirements.
• Perform cross functional architecture improvements, suggestions and support activities.
• Assist Principle and Senior Engineer(s) with architectural related tasks.
• Lead, review and conduct Architecture reviews cross functionally across all Boingo systems
• Perform other duties/projects as requested by management.

Requirements

• ​Demonstrated 12+ years of experience with chosen technology stack.
• Very strong development and architecture experience (8+ years) in Distributed Networking systems
• Strong practical Architecture experience in AWS and related Cloud platforms
• Strong understanding of Network protocols (TCP/IP) and fundamental understanding of 802.11 protocol(s).
• Demonstrated expertise with UNIX/Windows and Mobile (Android/iOS) platforms.
• 10+ years programming, designing ​and testing experience in any Programming Languages and Scripting languages.
• Development experience in node.js/Java/Go or similar frameworks.
• Strong development and testing experience in Windows OS, either using C, C++ or C#.
• Demonstrated experience in development, deployment and testing of mobile apps on either Windows, Android, or iOS platforms
• Demonstrated experience with markup languages like XML and JavaScript scripting language
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, coupled with discretion and sound independent judgment.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to quickly pick up new languages, technologies and have the passion to stay current in Technologies
• Good overall understanding of Web based frameworks and protocols including HTTP, XML, and SOAP.
• Strong experience working on various Version Control systems like SVN, GIT, CVS, Perforce etc.
• Demonstrated experience in SSL certificates and related security protocols
• Bachelor’s Degree and 10-15 years of equivalent development experience or Master’s Degree and 6-10 years of equivalent development experience.

• Understanding on AGILE/Scrum process for iterative development
• Passionate about R&D, System Architecture, developing prototypes and building distributed solutions.
