THE PURPOSE:

 

The DevOps Lead will be part of the Software Engineering Function, and will lead the team responsible for automating the delivery of software, deployment of infrastructure, and development tools in a fast-paced Agile environment.
 The role is integral in delivering the software platform that supports the operational control system that will give Hyperloop passengers the fast, safe, direct-to-destination service, while dealing with real-world events that would otherwise disrupt the service. This team develops and maintains the software development infrastructure, build pipelines, continuous integration tools, databases, services, and applications at Virgin Hyperloop One. They work closely with architects, developers, and system engineers to deliver the software that will make VHO’s hyperloop software a reality. We are seeking experienced candidates to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals at our Los Angeles facility

 

THE ROLE:

  • Establish best practices for structuring, automating, building, deploying, and monitoring complex distributed software products and environments.
  • Direct the design, development, implementation, and optimization of the software and infrastructure build, integration, release, and deployment approach.
  • Lead, grow, mentor, and maintain a team of skilled engineers.
  • Ensure the reliability and traceability of software releases and deployments of software and infrastructure changes.
  • Create and maintain platform architecture and design specifications to aid development, test, and maintenance of software environments
  • Create monitoring and alerting platforms that notify on behavioral anomalies across distributed software systems.Keep a customer focused mindset, prioritizing engineering productivity and infrastructure availability.
  • Champion software engineering processes for safety critical and safety-related systems and tools.

 

 

THE CANDIDATE:

 
  • Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot complex issues in distributed environments.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and executeparallel workstreams.
  • Self-motivated and takes initiative.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to present complex ideas to non-experts.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, in both written and oral communication.

 

MINIMUM REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience automating software build, test, and deployment pipelines following Agile methodologies.
  • Strong understanding of software development fundamentals and best-practices.
  • Experience provisioning, configuring, and supporting highly-reliable production Linux systems.
  • Understanding of cloud computing fundamentals and architectures.
  • Experience automating deployments of cloud infrastructure and services.

 PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience managing teams to deploy and maintain software development, analysis, testing, and delivery toolchains.
  • Experience building out continuous  capabilities
  • Proven track record of building and supporting clustered systems and distributed data stores.
  • Experience with auto generate custom test reports or validation reports
  • Understanding of operating system performance tools, metrics and benchmarks.
  • Strong demonstrable ability for automating tasks using popular scripting languages.
  • Proficiency in networking and web services design.
  • Experience deploying and supporting containerized workloads in production.
  • Experience with software testing - unit, integration, and end-to-end. 
  • Experience deploying and maintaining service-oriented architectures, datastores, or streaming infrastructures.
  • Experience with source control systems (Git preferred)
  • BS or better degree in Computer Science or equivalent
